Once upon a time he reinterprets the mythical classic tales (17/04/2018)

Nicomedes Gómez 'of the Town Hall |

The exhibition 'Érase una vez', by Mariola Valderrain, will show original versions of the classic stories, but reinterpreted by the young artist from Cartagena.

The exhibition opens this Thursday, April 19, in the Subjective Room 'Nicomedes Gómez' and can be visited until May 22.

The exhibition is organized by the Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena that allocates this hall of the Palace Hall to the emerging artists of the city.

At the inauguration of this Thursday, April 19, David Martinez, councilor of the Culture and Youth area, is scheduled to attend.

With this exhibition, Valderrain retrieves the original versions of the classic stories to reinterpret them through his particular vision while still making them easily recognizable to the viewer, seeking to make known the teachings they contain about human behavior.

The artist has used acrylic to transport the viewer to childhood to mythical classic tales such as: Snow White, The Lead Soldier, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, The Ugly Duckling ...

Each of them includes an aspect of modern society such as: education, money, greed, lack of communication or the marginalization of the different.

The stories have the responsibility of transmitting the experience of what has been experienced by some and that the teaching they leave is not forgotten, and this has been the case for generations.

This will be the first exhibition in which the Subjective Room will be renamed Nicomedes Gómez (1903-1983), a Cartagena painter of international fame, who was named the favorite son of our city in 1979, and whose engravings of Don Quixote they meet in the municipal gallery.
