The Military Museum of Cartagena exhibits Spanish flags of the last five centuries (17/04/2018)

The Military Historical Museum of Cartagena hosts from Monday, April 16, the exhibition 'Spain in Red and Gualda', organized by the Institute of Military History and Culture.

It is a collection of historical flags of Spain of the last five centuries, which begins its journey in the time of the Catholic Monarchs.

The collection of historical flags will cover several Spanish cities.

The exhibition will be in our city until May 12 and can be visited from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

David Martinez, Councilor for Culture, Education and Youth of the City Council of Cartagena, attended the opening ceremony.

The event was chaired by the general director of the Institute of History and Culture and Military, Carlos de la Fuente Chacón, and was preceded by an inaugural lecture on these flags, with special attention to their evolution and the redress of 1843, which was imparted by Colonel Gerardo López-Mayoral Hernández, assigned to the Subdirectorate of Historical Studies of said Institute.

With these activities we want to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the promulgation of the Royal Decree of October 13, 1843 by which Isabel II orders flags banners and rosettes adopt the colors red and yellow.

The flags are replicas of those that are exhibited permanently in the Assembly Hall of the Military History and Culture Institute of the Spanish Army in Madrid.
