Cartagena has saved, on Thursday, April 12, a minute of silence in front of the Palace Hall, to express its condemnation and rejection for the murder of a woman in the city of Murcia, who was a victim of sexist violence on the day from yesterday.
At 12:00 noon the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, accompanied by members of the Municipal Corporation, other authorities and municipal staff, paid a tribute to the victim, keeping a respectful minute of silence.
The government team also carried a banner in which they could read 'Cartagena against macho violence'.
The silence was broken with applause in memory of the victims of male violence.
The mayor has expressed his rejection of these events that he described as "a cruel reality that unfortunately continues to happen."
The councilor, in addition, has claimed the need to have that pact on gender violence and more budget to carry it out, "a pact that is not accompanied by a budget, can not be carried out.
And that is what the government of Spain knows, the Regional Government knows, and unfortunately, the city councils know that we are the ones who suffer the lack of resources.
We are the administration closest to the citizen and that is why we feel and suffer the need for these tools, "said the councilor.
Castejón has ended by reminding the government of Mariano Rajoy that, "we can not settle for 80 million euros.
We need a pact that contemplates the 200 million euros, because with that amount it will allow both the autonomous communities, as the municipalities, provide us with a budget and therefore tools to eradicate, as far as possible, this social scourge, these murders, like he of the woman of yesterday, "concluded Castejón.
