MC Cartagena and CTSSP will demand that a commission study the purchases made from Fire and Civil Protection (07/04/2018)

The municipal groups of MC Cartagena and Cartagena Sí Se Puede (CTSSP) will request, during the next regular session of the Plenary Session in April, that the commissioning of a Research Commission be agreed on the purchases made from the municipal services of Fire Extinction and Salvage (Fire) and Civil Protection.

This action aims to optimize purchases according to the main needs and control spending, to redirect it to priority issues.

Currently, only one person is responsible for the purchases of both services, resulting in a series of underutilized vehicles and material.

This situation has motivated that, at the initiative of MC with the accession of Cartagena Sí Se Puede, it is proposed to study the reasons why there is material that expires without being used or an expense is spent on the acquisition of vehicles whose usefulness is doubtful for not showing competences in certain actions.

At present, the mayor of the MC Cartagena municipal group, María José Soler, has commented, "in the Security Park, we have a catastrophe vehicle to be used in case of earthquakes, which will never be used, even if this earthquake would occur, since if it were to occur, level 2 would be activated and it would no longer be the responsibility of the City of Cartagena, but of the Ministry of the Interior. "

Likewise, Soler added that "we can say that the rescue services at height and underwater are currently suppressed, however, we buy material for both of them".

In addition, "in the case of cisterns truck accidents, where we have chemical risk vehicles valued at around one million euros, the material they transport is not used because the company is required to operate the accident tank truck to activate the protocols and make the transfer of products ".

In this context, María José Soler has denounced that there are "vacant vacancies and upcoming retirements." Eight years have passed without opposition in the Fire Service, a body that demands more personnel, economic improvements due to dangerousness, greater training and adaptation of its facilities. "

Finally, the mayor of Cartagena explained that "in the Commission should appear the Chief of Fire and Civil Protection to explain in detail the material and vehicles you have, how you use the money and justify whether those expenses are necessary or not, all in order to optimize the cost of the service ".
