The IX edition of April Book filled with feminine letters Cartagena (03/04/2018)

The 9th Edition of "Abril Libro" will be dedicated to equality, with the valorisation of the merits of women in this field.

This is intended to do justice to the female figures who in previous times could not enjoy the recognition they deserved.

Thus, Cartagena will be dressed in literature to celebrate the Book Day, which will take place next Monday, April 23, although it will display its activities during the week of April 18 to 27.

The councilor of the Culture area, David Martínez;

the head of the Municipal Libraries, Carmen Rodal;

and the coordinator of the Meeting of Authors in Cartagena (ELACT), Francisco Marín, have met to present the programmed activities.

The Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, has emphasized the importance of flying the flag of equality in all areas of culture, therefore, it is essential to dedicate this edition to the most important female figures in this field.

In addition, the Councilor for Culture, has highlighted the need to focus some of the most important programming activities for the day of the book, in the figure of the character created by the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren, Pippi Longstocking.

As emphasized by the mayor of Culture, "this character is a paradigm of absolute freedom, is strong and rebellious" and, in addition, it is a character that has been very popular in our country for several decades.

Some of the activities that will have as a common denominator the figure of this fictional character are the pastry workshops, which will take place in different parts of Cartagena and the children's show "Pipi and the pirates", by the group Pepa y Los Biches.

ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED DURING THE WEEK

Throughout the week there will be activities that commemorate the day of the book.

Some of which highlight the central theme chosen for this edition, thus, the activity "Voices for ... the Sinsombrero", is a chained reading that gives voice to authors of the Generation of 27 and that, in addition, will be enlivened by the chamber group of the Youth Orchestra of Cartagena.

To put the finishing touches to this week of literary activities and meetings, a dramatized nighttime tour under the name "Legends of Women" is scheduled.

In the same way, the Second Bookmarking Contest will be held, whose term will remain open from April 3 to 23 (both inclusive).

For its part, the head of the Municipal Libraries of Cartagena, Mª Carmen Rodal, has echoed some activities that commemorate the Day of the Book, both inside and outside of Cartagena, and which has been well invited to all that interested in some of the topics discussed.

Rodal, also wanted to highlight, the presentations of literary works that will be carried out under the cover of the program "Read, think and imagine", developed by the Library Network, together with Cartagena Piensa.

Thus, "There is no oven for croissants", by the young writer Shirin Klaus, will be presented on Tuesday, April 24;

and the novel "Nocturne: stories of sex and death", by author Claude Lalumière will be presented by Lola Guitiérrez.

Francisco Marín, co-director of Elact, has detailed some of the activities that make up the programming of this sixth edition, which will run from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 April.

Marin, thanked the welcome that this initiative has had year after year.

The first two days will begin with seminars open to the public.

For its part, the Round Table "Cartagena Literary" is one of the most important programming activities and in the words of the Co-Director of Elact, "What is intended with it is to give visibility to some of the most important literary works of Cartagena" In addition, among the activities proposed for these three days include the Poetry Recital of young authors and the VI Award for micro-stories "Lola Fernández Moreno" that this year has been a success of participation to receive more than 1200 papers submitted to the contest, figure that doubles participation compared to previous years.
