Cs announces that it will promote from the City Council and the Regional Assembly the creation of the Cartagena Sea Academy (02/04/2018)

- "We believe that it is a timely, necessary and positive project for this Autonomous Community, a way to unify and generate knowledge related to the sea by which we can benefit in many ways," said the spokesman for the orange training in Cartagena, Manuel Padín

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has received today in its premises of the Consistorial Palace the promoters of the project to set up the Cartagenera del Mar Academy, Sciences and Arts.

The meeting was attended by the writer and essayist, Juan Eladio Palmis, the economist and professor, Francisco Marín, the lawyer Eladio Sánchez and the spokesman of the orange training, Manuel Padín.

The members of this group have explained that their goal is to create an academy as a non-profit corporation, with dozens of professionals and specialists linked to a greater or lesser extent with the sea to, among other things, generate and share research on shipbuilding , history and maritime transport, naval archeology, among other topics related to the marine environment and the different activities that exist around it.

After a long process that began in August 2016, on February 8, 2018, they received a resolution signed by the Minister of Employment, Universities and Business, Juan Hernández Albarracín, which denies the creation of the Academy of the Sea, Sciences and the Arts and where it is argued somewhat pilgrim that the autonomous region already has a good number of academies to perform functions of study, observation and research, among others, the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery, the Santa Maria Pharmacy of Spain, the Veterinary, the Academy of Sciences, the Royal Academy Alfonso X el Sabio or the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa María de la Arrixaca.

The administrative file was sent to various entities to make a non-binding report on the suitability of creating this academy and as is mandatory to the Council of Academies of the Region of Murcia, among them gave their express support the University of Murcia, and the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena while the Chamber of Commerce of Murcia and the UPCT opposed.

For its part, the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries abstained.

The committee that promotes this project has reported that they are prepared to register a resource to that decision in the coming days, "they do not understand (and we do not understand) that the refusal is justified by referring to other academies that have little or nothing to do with the one that It projects, "explained the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, who has expressed his" full support "to the initiative and has announced that he will promote both the City Council and the Regional Assembly, a legislative initiative in defense of the creation of the Cartagenera del Mar Academy, Sciences and Arts, "we believe that it is a timely, necessary and positive project for this Autonomous Community, a way to unify and generate knowledge related to the sea by which we can benefit in many ways" .

Manuel Padín will send all the documentation received in the next few days to his Parliamentary Group to promote the creation of this corporation politically, "and we will also ask for the support of all political groups in Cartagena at the next ordinary plenary session."

"We want to promote this project by seeking social and political support, involving in it the citizens, companies, institutions, groups and political formations of this Autonomous Community interested in the birth of an academy linked to the marine environment," said the spokesperson. Cs.

According to the orange training, the only reference that we know in this sense is the Royal Academy of the Sea, at national level and whose headquarters are in Madrid, "although it has a different philosophy, rather it is a business and institutional cluster and not a focus academic of knowledge, but even so, we believe that the future academy based in Cartagena can relate to the national and make compatible its objectives and research in a very profitable and enriching way ".
