Cartagena vibrated again in the final stretch of its Holy Week (02/04/2018)

Cartagena faced Holy Wednesday, March 28, Resurrection Sunday, April 1, the final stretch of his Holy Week, which counted as every year with numerous processions in the urban center, neighborhoods and councils that recalled the passion, death and resurrection of Christ.

On Wednesday, March 28, the Magna Procession of the Capture of Christ, of the Cofradía California, was celebrated and began at 9:00 p.m. from the Church of Santa María de Gracia.

Also in La Aljorra there was a procession of Holy Wednesday, with departure at 22:00 hours.

Holy Thursday began with the General Chapter of the Buds, which was held in the auditorium of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) of the Campus of the Muralla del Mar, where the brothers of the Marraja Brotherhood reaffirmed their condition as mako shamans.

Then came the relief of the Roman soldiers before the Christ of Ecce Homo, where the Californian soldiers honored the Christ at 7:15 p.m. at the door of the Church of Santa Maria de Gracia.

On this same day, the procession of Cristo de los Pescadores took place at Cabo de Palos at 8:30 p.m.

It is a very special sailor parade in which the processionists take to the streets with symbols related to the sea and the people who work there.

In addition, the Cofradía California celebrated this Holy Thursday at 9:00 p.m. the solemn Procession of Silence and of the Most Holy Christ of the Miners, the last of the processions of this brotherhood.

Once they returned to the Church of Santa María de Gracia, they sang a miserere to the Ecce Homo and a Salve from Cartagena to the collection of the Virgin.

Towards 00:05 hours of that same night, with the arrival of Good Friday, the parade of maras grenadiers began with their Parade of Good Friday, which announces the procession of the Encounter in the Plaza de la Merced.

Towards 3:05 a.m. the first of the processions, that of the Veronica Woman, left from the Church of Santa María de Gracia;

at 3:10, from the ETS of Industrial Engineers, the Procession of Our Father Jesus of Medinaceli;

at 3:30 am, from the Fish Market of Santa Lucía, the Procession of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno;

and, finally, at 3:45 am, from Santa María de Gracia, the Procession of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.

The Encounter between the Sorrowful Virgin and Jesus Nazareno took place around 5:30 in the Plaza de la Merced (or Plaza del Lago), crowded with the public.

Once the multitudinous Encuentro was held, the four processions marched together towards the Church of Santa María de Gracia to pray a Salve to the Virgin around 8:00 am.

Once the night of Good Friday arrived, at 9:00 p.m., the procession of the Holy Burial of Christ, of the Marraja Brotherhood, was held, with the participation of the gala procession of the Municipal Corporation.

In addition, at 22:00 hours the processions of La Aljorra and Los Belones went out.

That same night, at 00:00 hours, the Procession of Las Ánimas de La Palma began.

On Holy Saturday, at 7:00 p.m., the procession of the Vera Cruz, the most modern and austere of the Marraja Brotherhood, left the Church of Santa María de Gracia, in which the electricity of the hachotes disappears to leave step to the wax.

In addition, at 7:10 pm, the Procession of the Holy Women of the Marraja Brotherhood began from the rectory of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (San Diego Street).

Finally, this Easter Sunday, April 1, at 10:30 am, the Passion Week with the Procession of the Risen Christ came to an end, which came from the Church of Santa María de Gracia.

The procession celebrated its 75th anniversary and put the finishing touches to Holy Week in Cartagena with the collection of the Virgin of Beautiful Love at the stroke of four in the afternoon.
