Cartagena hosts a march on Endometriosis this Saturday (21/03/2018)

The city of Cartagena hosts on Saturday March 24 the March for Endometriosis, organized by the Association of Affected by Endometriosis (ADAEC) and has the support of the City of Cartagena.

This march will begin at 10:00 a.m. from the Plaza de España and will take you along Calle del Carmen and Calle Mayor until you reach Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

In addition, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. there will be an information table located on Calle San Sebastián.

In the presentation of this solidarity march has been the Councilor of the Area of Quality of Life and Welfare, Obdulia Gómez, along with Patricia Wait and Alicia García, representatives of the ADAEC.

The main objective of this event is to visualize this disease that affects 1 in 10 women in the world and that only in Spain finds 2, 2 million cases diagnosed.

Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects only women and consists of a benign growth of the endometrial tissue that causes it to move out of the uterus causing hemorrhages with very strong pains and, in the most extreme cases, incapacitating the woman for be a mother.

This disease has four degrees depending on its severity and, in the last one, it can cause metastasis causing other organs such as the kidney, rectum, pancreas or lung to be affected.

The representatives of ADAEC have insisted on the importance of research on this disease, the training of health professionals and the "fight against the misunderstanding of society."

Patricia Wait, has also denounced the implicit machismo in society because "in the case of men who have had to remove a testicle if they have a disability, while if a woman removed the uterus, with everything that this entails, is not apt to have a disability. "

In addition, the councilor has called on all women to participate in Saturday's march because, he stressed, "is a disease that only affects women and that is why it is very little investigated."
