Acts against racial discrimination in different IES of Cartagena (20/03/2018)

The strategy 'Cartagena Free of Rumors' program a week, from 19 to 23 March, with various acts against discrimination and in favor of integration, and interculturality.

The acts will take place in different institutes of secondary education (IES).

The activities are led and promoted by the City Council through the Unit of Immigration and Development Cooperation of the Department of Social Services.

On March 20, the Performance will be carried out: 'Youth in Transit'.

A representation by the students of the Social Integration Cycle of the IES Mediterranean, which will be held at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center at 5:30 p.m.

An act against discrimination where a reading of a manifesto against racial discrimination will be carried out.

On March 21 is celebrated the International Day of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, for this reason, a representative of the Department of Social Services of Cartagena will participate in Bilbao in the day 'Citizenship as an active agent of the fight against discrimination' .

In which will present the experience of good practices of the implementation of the Anti-rumor Strategy in Cartagena, explaining the organizational structure, achievements, challenges and future bets of the strategy "Cartagena Free of Rumors"

Coinciding with this date, a year ago, the 'Cartagena Libre de Rumores' strategy was presented, an initiative recognized as good practice by various institutions such as the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

In this process, various councils and municipal departments are also participating, as well as social action entities and secondary education centers and groups of young volunteers.

OBJECTIVE OF 'CARTAGENA LIBRE DE RUMORES'

The objective is to show that, together with the most direct and violent racism, there is also a more subtle racism and, consequently, more difficult to identify and fight.

The aim is to make visible the different types of prejudices and stereotypes that constitute the main barriers that hinder positive interaction among citizens.

For this, it promotes: tolerance, inclusion, unity and respect for diversity, in favor of intercultural coexistence.
