Telephony and Internet capture the highest number of consumer complaints in Cartagena (14/03/2018)

On the occasion of the celebration on March 15 of the World Day of Consumer Rights, the Consumer Information Office of the City of Cartagena (OMIC) has published a statistic of the last 12 months in which it processed 2,221 records and attended 3,224 consultations, constituting, in the opinion of its councilor, Obdulia Gómez, an essential piece for the defense and protection of Cartagena's consumers.

The statistic also points to the telephony and internet sector as the most controversial of all, capturing a third of all registered queries and placing Vodafone and Orange, at the top of the ranking of the most demanded companies.

It also reflects an estimate of the benefit that has been for consumers the mediation of the OMIC in their claims, estimated at 129,571 euros, which would have to add the amounts of favorable awards issued by the consumer arbitration board.

The report concludes with the 9,115 documents processed in the last twelve months by the OMIC and the 172 hearings held at the Consumer Arbitration Board

Obdulia Gómez has stated that the OMIC is essential for many citizens because of the great work that it develops and, at the same time, annoying for companies, especially for large companies, because the OMIC defends and protects citizens from the abuses of these companies and take out the colors to some organism.

He also explained that sectors such as telephone or energy have realized the potential of the OMIC and have created specific services that facilitate claims for the benefit of consumers.

Finally, it has indicated as a priority the implementation of a campaign to achieve adhesion to the arbitration system of all businesses in Cartagena and its municipal area, as well as the implementation of a consumer information system on their rights in purchases.
