Cs: The City Council recognizes that it has not applied any measures to save water and that it is updating the Drought Plan (11/03/2018)

- Citizens sent a letter a week ago to the Mayor's Office interested in the measures that the Consistory is implementing or will implement to meet the demands for savings imposed since November 2017 by Canales del Taibilla and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) )

- The Department of Environmental Planning announces, in response to the demand of Cs, a campaign to sensitize the population that will be presented this month

The Group of Citizens in Cartagena has informed today that the City of Cartagena has sent, a few weeks ago, a proposal to update the 'Emergency Plan in situations of drought in the municipality of Cartagena' to the Segura Hydrographic Confederation in order that make the mandatory report so that, once the possible repairs have been remedied, it is approved by the competent body of the City Council.

This update of the Plan (which was 10 years old) has been transferred to the CHS following a request from the basin body at the end of November 2017.

The orange training has had access to this information after submitting a letter a week ago to the Mayor's Office interested in the measures that are being implemented or will be implemented by the Consistory to be able to face the demands of savings imposed by Canales del Taibilla and the Hydrographic Confederation of the Segura (CHS).

In that letter, Cs also requested the viewing of the Emergency Plan against Drought.

The spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has indicated that "we already know the reason why our City Council has not implemented so far not a single measure to save water: we had an outdated Drought Plan, with more than 10 years, that it was necessary to update ".

Manuel Padín recalled that in November 2017, Canales del Taibilla and CHS gave the order to save about 25 cubic hectometres until October to municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, but Cartagena, like others, has not complied. " .

According to the Law of the National Hydrological Plan (NHP), all town councils of more than 20,000 inhabitants must have an emergency plan in the face of drought, "as it is of municipal competence, it is the City of Cartagena that must decide what measures are the priority among those included in a package of general proposals for savings, "said Manuel Padin, who recalled that" we are already in the fourth hydrological year of drought, and the priority is to meet all the supplies of the populations " .

"The truth is that our City Council deserves the tug of the ears, because it has allowed the Drought Emergency Plan to age, and has only reacted when the CHS has asked you to submit the Plan and apply saving measures in the face of the serious situation drought that we suffer, "lamented the orange spokesman who believes that" once again, we only act when we take the colors and there is no choice, the municipal forecast shines by its absence. "

Awareness campaign

Citizens publicly demanded last Thursday the City Council an awareness campaign to save water and today the Department of Environmental Planning has announced that a Communication Campaign is being prepared, which is expected to be presented this March, "we do not know if It has been a happy coincidence or response to our demand, but in any case, we received this news as something positive, any measure aimed at raising awareness among the population is a key to achieving effective savings of consumption, but insufficient, "warns Cs .
