The Batel was filled with classical music with the Extraordinary Concert of Between Strings and Metals (02/03/2018)

The Auditorium El Batel hosted last Thursday, March 1, the V Extraordinary Concert of the 'Between Strings and Metals' contest, organized by the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena and the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena.

As prior to this concert, the Conservatory held an open house the day before the concert on Wednesday, February 28, aimed at students of the municipality.

More than 400 young people attended the rehearsal of a concert with a Symphony Orchestra and they could see how the musicians prepare for the assembly of this great event.

The Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, was present at the concert and enjoyed, together with the public, the beauty of the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra and the star performance of several of its most outstanding and winners of 'Entre Cuerdas y Metales' 'of other editions.

THE CONCERT AND ITS GUESTS MUSICIANS

The concert regained the presence of former winners of the contest 'Between Strings and Metals', which have consolidated and have reaped numerous successes in their musical careers.

The show featured the performance of the brothers from Cartagena Emilio and Álvaro Yepes as soloists.

Both are contrabassers trained at the Conservatory of Cartagena and today have an important musical career in Europe.

Emilio Yepes was named 'Outstanding Student' in 2003 and completed his training in Berlin.

He has played with the most important orchestras and groups, and with directors such as Daniel Barenboim and Claudio Abbado.

He has recorded for SONY and premiered works of great success.

Since 2008 he is part of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

Álvaro Yepes, on the other hand, was awarded the Most Outstanding Student of the Double Bass Chair at the hands of Reina Sofía in 2007. That same year he was admitted to the 'Hanns Eisler' School of Music in Berlin.

He has played, like his brother, in many orchestras, such as the Freixenet Orchestra, Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra or the European Union Youth Orchestra.

He currently works as a freelance throughout the European geography.

Together with them was the baton of the director Leonardo Martínez, and the Symphony Orchestra of Cartagena, with the extended staff for this symphonic concert.

Specifically, 47 musicians returned to meet with the aim of creating a stable orchestra and present, from this concert, a continuous offer of musical events.
