The College Morally includes a Finnish program against bullying in the Region It is the first and only one in the Community of Murcia that incorporates this antibullying system, which addresses the problem from prevention, intervention and monitoring (26/02/2018)

The key to this project is changing the attitudes of the partners, the "by-standers" (the students who are neither victims nor bullies) who support the victim, instead of fomenting harassment

One in ten children say they have suffered bullying, according to reports from various NGOs.

To avoid this and eradicate this type of behavior, the Miralmonte School has pioneered in the Region the anti-bullying program Kiva, a Finnish project that prevents situations of bullying to students.

"The effectiveness of Kiva, which has spread to 90 percent of schools in Finland and exported to a large number of countries around the world, lies in its effectiveness, and in that it addresses the problem from prevention, intervention and monitoring ", says the director of the Miralmonte School, Juan Carlos López.

The key to this project is changing the attitudes of the partners, the "by-standers" (the students who are neither victims nor bullies) who support the victim, instead of encouraging harassment.

"The question is to leave the harasser only in their inappropriate behaviors, not to see that no one follows, applauds or laughs at their behavior, that the students who harass, to whom everyone wants to resemble and who do not become leaders become leaders. Everyone wants to be friends, in this way they do not reinforce inappropriate behaviors, tending to diminish and become extinct, "says Juan Carlos López

One of Kiva's differences with other projects is that their results have been evaluated scientifically, as endorsed by scientific journals of the stature of Child Development.

"We had some doubts that a program developed in a society very different from ours, like the Finnish one, could work with the idiosyncrasy of a Latin people, temperamental and very expressive like ours, but seeing that it had been applied successfully in countries more similar to us like Italy or Mexico, could work with us, "concluded Juan Carlos Lopez.

The school has implemented it in three phases.

The first is that of prevention, where students and parents are made aware of what harassment and its consequences are.

In the second, teachers intervene through interviews, group intervention sessions with students and other tools, including even a video game.

And, the third, with the monitoring of the situation in the center and the changes that occur.

In this way, the Miralmonte School, located in Santa Ana (Cartagena) continues to incorporate teaching methodologies with the latest educational advances, such as the Singapore method, through which children guide their learning of mathematics and problem solving to reasoning and logic, or the Kids & Us method, which uses a methodology of learning English based on the natural process of acquisition of the mother tongue.
