Citizens will ask at the next Plenary session that the City Council will value the work of the painter and illustrator Nicomedes Gómez (18/02/2018)

- Citizens have reported that they have removed some of the works of Nicomedes Gómez that was auctioning off in a well-known art sale page

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena will ask at the next ordinary plenary session that the Government of Cartagena will take the necessary steps to highlight the work of the great Cartagena painter and illustrator Nicomedes Gómez.

On the other hand, the orange training wants the room that serves as an artistic gallery known as 'Subjective Room' on the first floor of the Palace Hall to be renamed 'Nicomedes Gómez Room' in recognition of this unrepeatable artist, without this meaning that this exhibition hall is no longer oriented to empower young promises, the art of new creators who have so many difficulties to exhibit their works.

The Citizens Group has reported that it has received a response from the Department of Culture and already has in its possession the list of works inventoried by Nicomedes Gómez.

"We appreciate the diligence and speed of the Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, to get us what we had requested, and in the absence of a physical inspection, we can say that the inventory contains the works that were donated by the author to the City Council in 1979 and that were exhibited for the last time in the year 2001 ".

"We want the Government of Cartagena to understand that it can not take more than 14 years without the citizens of Cartagena to enjoy the esoteric and mystical vision of this immortal Cartagena, and for that reason we are going to request that he value his work, and that study the possibility of maintaining a permanent exhibition in some of the spaces in Cartagena especially enabled for this, but while these efforts are made, we want to see an exhibition, even if it is temporary, in our city, a retrospective of the set of works that Nicomedes donated to his native city, among them, the famous collection of Don Quixote, and especially his mystical and esoteric collection ", explained Manuel Padín.

Regarding the proposal that the Subjective Room of the Palace Hall be renamed Sala Nicomedes Gómez, Manuel Padín believes that "it is a way to pay homage and praise the figure of this man, which we find very interesting, and mitigate the mistreatment and the oblivion he has suffered for so many years in his own land. "

The auctioned works disappear

Citizens warned last weekend that they were auctioning works by Nicomedes Gómez in specialized websites for the sale of art and antiques that could be owned by the municipality.

Manuel Padín has reported that "at the moment, in the list of inventoried works that we have not found any of those that have been auctioning in a well-known page specialized in the sale of art and antiques, but it has called us powerfully the attention that Several of the works that were in this Internet space have been removed unexpectedly ".

According to the councilor of Cs, "we still harbor doubts about the control and oversight that this City Council performs of works of art and other cultural or artistic property that are municipal property, so we have sent a new brief to the Department of Culture for to inform us of who keeps the inventory of all the City Council's cultural assets (paintings, sculptures, art objects, etc.), as a first step to investigate if our artistic heritage is properly protected and controlled ".
