The town crier, Angel Julio Huertas, claims the creation of the Museum of Holy Week (17/02/2018)

The Isidoro Máiquez hall of the Municipal Auditorium of El Batel has hosted for the first time this Saturday, February 17, the Proclamation of the Holy Week in Cartagena.

The one in charge of proclaiming what is considered to be the oldest and most exciting of the Cartagena traditions has been Ángel Julio Huertas Amorós, a great processionist and student of Holy Week.

In the act has also been delivered the title of Nazarene Mayor to Mariana Larios Andreu, a marraja that has been meaning by its commitment to Holy Week, as it is curator of the guild of the brotherhood, president of the Ladies Board of the Virgen de la Soledad, sister of the Sepulcher, collaborator of the Marraja Foundation and of the Basilica of Charity, and a restless and dedicated person to the neighbor through the Charity Commission of the brotherhood, in which it stands out for its activity and participation .

The ceremony has begun with the welcome of the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, who has indicated that this year they have been forced to change the location of the proclamation to El Batel because "the auditorium of the Polytechnic University was small last year due to the expectation that "this event awakens.

In addition, the councilor stressed that "many are the processionists who year after year work tirelessly for our passionate courtship" and highlighted the work of the town crier, Angel Julio Huertas, and the nazarene, Mariana Larios, "worthy of the charge for which they have been elected. "

Later, the president of the Brotherhood Board, Manuel Martínez Guillén, presented the town crier and the nazarene, after which the speech of Ángel Julio Huertas, illustrated with images and music of Holy Week, was developed.

Huertas has moved to his childhood at the beginning of his speech, in which he recalled when he "saw Holy Week with his grandparents on Calle del Carmen" and has shown his longing for the "processions and traditions that have lost spontaneity and possibly its true reason for being, such as the call or Lent. "

He has also invited to reflect on "we are not aware of the artistic and historical value that many of the items we use during Holy Week hide".

"I have seen too much interest to release and little desire to restore," he said.

He has also claimed the need for Cartagena to count as other cities with a museum, because "a museum would be the best tribute to all those who preceded us and would also be an investment in the future to safeguard our heritage."

At the end, which has been reciprocated by the 600 people who have witnessed in action with prolonged applause of several minutes, the mayor has given him the title of crier and has imposed the shield of the city in gold.

Next, the delivery of the title to the nazarene by the mayor took place along with the gold clasp with the coat of arms of Cartagena and the four brotherhoods, representing "the deep love and respect" that Mariana Larios has.

Likewise, the Nazarene of last year, María Jesús Moreno, has passed the relay to the holder of this year.

The Nazarene has issued a few words in which she highlighted the role of women in Easter Cartagena, "often in a second scene, but no less important", because "their great work", said Larios, "It has always been to teach their children to love, respect and admire these Brotherhoods that with so much dignity know how to put on the streets their processional parades".

He also pointed out that the Brotherhood are not only processions during Holy Week, since "it has a daily procession 365 days a year, the procession of love for others, care and attention to brothers with problems," he added. Nazarene

The mayor finally thanked the nazarene and the town crier, as well as all the attendees, and stressed the work of the City Council "that everything is ready and perfectly during the ten days of our Holy Week."

The ceremony has been broadcast live on the internet, as on other occasions, through the municipal website and the municipal news channel on YouTube.
