Cs meets with the residents of the Barrio de la Concepción and claims to be "losing patience" with the City Council (16/02/2018)

- In spite of the neighborhood demonstration that took place in June 2017 to demand the restoration of the original signage and the circulation of Dalia Street, and despite a plenary agreement promoted by the Citizens Group, the City Council has not yet initiated the works to restore the conditions of this artery

The spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has met with residents of the Barrio de la Concepción to collect their demands and historical proposals.

The residents of this neighborhood regret that the Government of Cartagena has turned a deaf ear to needs that have dragged on for years.

The main one has to do with a great plan for the pedestrianization of the Casco Antiguo neighborhood and the creation of a Day Center for the elderly.

In spite of the neighborhood demonstration that took place in June 2017 to demand the restoration of the original signage and the circulation of Dalia Street, and despite a plenary agreement promoted by the Citizens Group, the City Council has not yet started work to restore the conditions of this artery.

Other of the most pressing needs have to do with the deficiencies in terms of accessibility and leveling in Azucena Street, Tulipanes and other streets in the neighborhood.

The lack of signage to warn of the danger of detachment on Molina and Cross streets, the lack of lighting from Muro street to the pedestrian walkway, or the need to change the roofs of the school's uralita and the neighborhood auditorium, or to prepare the accesses from the Puente del Cartagonova to the vicinity of the neighborhood, are other claims that fall into disrepair for a long time.

According to the local spokesman of Citizens, "neither the neighborhood demonstrations, nor the plenary agreements, nor the media pressure seem to be enough for the City Council to react and assume its responsibility to cover the needs and collaborate with the residents of the Concepción to live in decent conditions. "

For Manuel Padín, "this authentic neighborhood adjacent to the historic center of the city deserves another deal and Citizens are losing patience, so one of our main concerns is to analyze the Neighborhood Plan announced so many times by the mayor of Cartagena and of which We do not know anything, for this it is necessary to have the draft of the municipal budgets of 2018 as soon as possible to verify that the most disadvantaged neighborhoods of our municipality receive the investment attention they desperately need ".

On the other hand, the spokesman of Cs Cartagena believes that "the Barrio de la Concepcion deserves a specific plan for recovery and repopulation, which in our opinion goes through an ambitious project that includes tax benefits for young people who are looking to acquire or rent a home and the construction of a parking lot that allows pedestrianization of the center, as demanded by the neighbors ".

Manuel Padín has informed that his Group, before the inaction of the City council, already is analyzing a plan of shock to reactivate the district to propose it, if it is necessary, in an ordinary Plenary session.

Municipal Nursery

Citizens have warned of the abandonment situation and the danger posed by the pruning remains, and the rust that accumulates in part of the municipal nursery of the Barrio de la Concepción.

This nursery is located between the neighborhood of La Concepción and the Rambla de Benipila, in the heart of the port city.

It was initially managed by the former ICONA, later passed into the hands of the Autonomous Community and the City of Cartagena.

"We have been surprised by the amount of garbage, debris, rusted materials, and weeds that pile up in a corner of this municipal nursery under a pedestrian walkway and a few meters from the Medical Office, the City Council has to take action on the matter and clear the area before we have to suffer some misfortune, if someone throws a butt and sets fire we will have a problem, "said the orange spokesman who has announced that he will ask at the next plenary session to remedy the situation.
