The Cartagena families at risk of exclusion may access municipal housing (06/02/2018)

The Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia published on February 2 the initial approval of the Ordinance that regulates the Municipal Register of plaintiffs of protected housing and the award of social housing under lease, after the Municipal Plenary of the City Council of Cartagena approved it on December 29.

As of the day of publication in the BORN, the text of the Ordinance Project has been submitted to public information and audience to interested parties for a period of 30 days.

It can be consulted in the Notice Board and the Transparency Portal of the City Council, www.cartagena.es, as well as in the Housing Assistance and Intermediation Service of the Department of Social Services.

If after said period no allegations have been presented, the ordinance will be taken to the Municipal Plenary for final approval and implementation.

"This is the first time that a Municipal Ordinance regulates access on equal terms to all citizens of Cartagena to the Register of Claimants of Protected Housing with the aim of promoting transparency in the awarding of social housing under lease", has Explained the mayor and councilor of Social Services, Ana Belén Castejón.

People who want to apply for registration in the registry must submit documentation to assess the cases individually through the application of a scale that includes aspects of housing need, social aspects and economic aspects.

Likewise, the people who register must comply with the suitability principle through which aspects that relate the family profile to the characteristics of the available homes will be assessed.

The most novel of this Registry is the guarantee in the transparency of the adjudication as well as equal access for all citizens.

As for the scale, for the first time, it takes into account aspects of working life and bets for a profile "of a fighter and responsible family that in recent years has been punished by the economic crisis and now tries to get ahead by itself", As reported by the first mayor.

"Municipal housing thus becomes a very valuable resource and can prevent possible situations of social exclusion caused by the loss of housing," added Castejón.

The City Council will have a real knowledge of the need for housing, which will guide you in your constant search for resources and ways to support families in Cartagena.
