Texas, The Human League, Gregory Porter and FASHION will lead the poster of La Mar de Musicas 2018 (01/02/2018)

The 24th edition of La Mar de Músicas will have Denmark, the happiest country in the world, as the guest country.

The festival, organized by the City of Cartagena, will be held from July 20 to 28 and will enjoy one of the most varied posters in its history.

The Nordic country will show its music, its art and its literature during this week.

The program dedicated to Denmark will be presented in a few weeks with the presence of the Danish ambassador in Spain, John Nielsen.

Nine musical groups, ten films, eight exhibitions and a dozen literary authors will show the great quality of the Danish culture.

The councilman of Culture, David Martinez, presented on Thursday, February 1, some of the groups that will be part of this diverse poster along with the director of La Mar de Músicas, Paco Martín, and the director of culture of the City of Cartagena, Fulgencia Plazas .

Texas, Songhoy Blues, Cécile McLorin Salvant, FASHION or The Human League are some of the thirteen confirmed groups of the almost 50 that will be part of the festival.

At the beginning of April all the groups of La Mar de Músicas will be announced, at which time the tickets and the tickets will be sold.

The Scottish group Texas, one of the most referential bands of the britpop and with more than 35 million albums sold throughout its career, will present its last album 'Jum on board', on Sunday 22nd of July.

That same day the African rock band Songhoy Blues will perform.

This group, born in Mali, was formed during the country's last civil war and, since then, carries its message of peace around the world.

These young Malians were discovered by Damon Albarn's Africa Express project and have played with artists such as Iggy Pop.

Jazz will also have a place in the festival with two of the best singers of the moment in this genre: Cécile McLorin Salvant and Gregory Porter.

A few days ago he won the Grammy for the Best Vocal Jazz Album for the album he will present at the festival, 'Dreams and Daggers'.

Gregory Porter, one of the most sought-after and charismatic jazz and soul vocalists, will also be in Cartagena with his latest album dedicated to Nat King Cole, which will be presented on Tuesday, July 24.

Representing Latin American music will be the new band Trending Topics.

This group is composed of the musical mind of Calle 13, Eduardo Cabra (Visitor) and the Dominican singer Vicente García.

Some of these works earned him the Grammy for Producer of the Year 2017. Trending Topics, a project that will be released in about a month, will merge electronic music with Afro-Antillean sounds and will perform at La Mar de Músicas on Wednesday, July 25.

The Burgos group La MODA, an acronym for La Maravillosa Orquesta Del Alcohol, will present its third album recently released on the market, 'Salvavida (from the lost bullets)'.

In just six years of experience, these young people have created an identity and a solid and non-transferable repertoire that exhaust tickets wherever they go and that place them as one of the great groups of the national music scene.

His concert in Cartagena will be on Friday, July 27.

That same day will be in Cartagena, the Malian Fatoumata Diawara.

The singer has become in recent years one of the most important female voices of the new African artistic generation.

In 2011 she was sponsored by the label of Ali Farka Touré and Oumou Sangaré although her worldwide popularity came with the release of her first solo album, 'Fatou'.

He will be presenting his second album at La Mar de Músicas.

The legendary British group The Human League will also be part of the varied poster of this festival.

The Human League will be in charge of closing the festival with their concert on Saturday, July 28, in which they will play both old songs and those of their last album, 'Credo'.

The Cartagena group Karmacadabra will present their first album at La Mar de Músicas, where music without complexes shines combining styles as disparate as ska, reggae or flamenco.

Kuve, the indie-rock band where frontman and songwriter Maryan Frutos will be at the front, will also pass through this stage.

And finally, the very young Poolshake, the new sensation of psychedelic rock.

THE SEA OF NEIGHBORHOODS AND AWARD 'LA MAR DE MÚSICAS 2018'

Although it has not yet been revealed who will be the artist to receive the recognition of the festival for his musical career, the Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, advanced in the presentation of the poster that will be an internationally recognized woman who receives the award this year.

In addition, the mayor assured that this new edition will continue with La Mar de Barrios, a program in charge of connecting the festival with the cultural diversity of the city.
