More than 5,000 elderly people and persons with disabilities will participate in the program designed by Social Services (25/01/2018)

The elderly and people with disabilities of the municipality of Cartagena will have, during the next months, 21 courses to remain active physically, mentally and socially.

From the Department of Social Services expect more than 5,000 people participate in all activities that have scheduled for the first half of the year.

The mayor and councilor of Social Services of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, presented Thursday, January 25, the new program, which includes activities of all kinds: cultural, training, sports, leisure and social, so that both the elderly and People with other abilities have a varied offer.

The president of the Federation of Senior Associations, María Beteta, has also appeared to offer more details of this program.

The City Council has allocated 60,000 euros to the program of this first semester, a budget that has been increased.

Ana Belén Castejón has taken advantage of the presentation of these activities to make it clear to the media that, "in the budgets that have to be approved, the one destined to Social Services is not negotiable".

The mayor stressed that this quarter will offer 21 courses with different themes such as: computer science, dance, English, history of Cartagena, painting and bobbin, among others.

The main novelty of this quarter are the music therapy workshops, photo retouching and learn to use your smartphone, a course that in the words of Castejón is "most useful since many older people have difficulties to manage their mobile phones because they are a technology to the one they are not used to. "

The activities will be developed in the elderly clubs, associations of people with disabilities and centers for daytime stays.

Castejón explained that the purpose of these activities and these services is to make available to this group: home help, telecare, family respite and home delivery, so that these people remain active physically, mentally and socially.

In short, contribute to their active and healthy aging.

One of the most successful activities in this program, since it already exceeds 200 registered people, is socio-cultural hiking.

This semester hikers have new routes and activities such as the Canteras Romanas;

the Interpretive Mining Route;

the crossing to the Sierra del Algarrobo, to enjoy the almond trees in bloom;

the Natural Park of Las Lagunas de Torrevieja;

and the Musical Walk through the Algameca Chica.

Also, it is necessary to emphasize in this program of hiking two talks on astronomy, where the opportunity will be had to observe the constellations and the exit of the moon, in the battery of San Leandro and in the Watchtower, of hand of Juan Ortega, professor of Astronomy of the Major's Classroom of the UPCT and professor of technology in the IES of Bohío.

Castejón also wanted to make special emphasis on the workshops that will be held at the Archaeological Museum, which are two: the one on 'Stories of Prehistory', where we will know where and how our most remote ancestors lived and 'El Ingenio al Servicio' of Beauty ', in which you can see the objects that since prehistoric times have served to embellish themselves or reflect beauty.

SENIOR CLUBS

Carnival: The Department of Social Affairs has prepared for senior clubs, different activities, among which the Carnival Party, on February 9, which will be held in the Hall of the Lady of Gold, with the election of the Queen of the Majors.

In this act will also act the comparsas of the different participating clubs, which during the previous months are conducting their workshops to make costumes and accessories and rehearsing the choreography with which they will surprise.

Valentine's Day: The associations of older people will also celebrate, soon, the huge Valentine's Ball, in which the participation of nearly a thousand people is expected, highlighting this year as a novelty the choice of the couple of the year of love.

Training: In April, the Training Days for Directors of Senior Clubs will be held, which the city organizes together with the Federation of Clubs and Associations for Older Persons, and which this year will focus on: 'Keys to healthy aging', in which they will talk about topics of interest such as: sleep disorders, food and resources to cope with old age.

Other activities in the elderly clubs are the workshops of free time, workshops of theater, bobbin, the program of stimulation of the memory, the gerontogimnasia, cultural weeks, cycles of conferences, theatrical representations or petanque championship.

ASSOCIATIONS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Likewise, workshops have been programmed in Associations of people with disabilities such as Ápices, Asilo Store of San Pedro and Afibrocar, where they can attend art, modeling and integrative dance workshops.

DIURNAS STAYS CENTERS

At the Day Care Centers of Los Dolores and El Algar, as well as in nursing homes, there are workshops for masks, reading, pastry, spring parties, theater, music and intergenerational activities.

ACCOMPANYING PEOPLE WITH LONELINESS

Castejón did not want to miss the opportunity to highlight, "the solidarity shown by our elders through the Accompaniment Program for people with loneliness problems and through the Experience Trunk, a very successful program, which consists of seniors they transmit their knowledge altruistically to other majors, through courses and workshops ".

SUMMER SCHOOLS

At the end of the courses, the Summer Schools will start, with attractive activities such as cultural visits, gastronomic workshops, talks and video forum on topics of interest to this group.

These workshops are especially designed for those elderly people who do not have the opportunity to go on vacation.

STREET TRIBUTE TO THE GRANDPARENTS

To end, Cstejón wanted to highlight another novelty, "it is a tribute to all the grandparents of our municipality, which will consist of the opening of a street with the name of 'The street of my grandparents'."

It will be in the deputation of Santa Ana, and there will be an opening ceremony on July 26, coinciding with the feast of San Joaquin and Santa Ana, since it is the day of the grandparents.

For this act, various activities have been programmed, led by the elders, sponsored by the company El Pozo Alimentación.

They can also pick it up by hand and sign up for activities at the Office for Attention to the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities located on the first floor of the Miraculous building.
