Cartagena prepares for a new National Saetas Competition (18/01/2018)

This weekend begins the National Contest of Saetas de Cartagena 2018, organized by the Portapagos Association of the Stma.

Virgen de la Piedad, along with the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno (Marrajos), to which it belongs, and the collaboration of the City of Cartagena, the Ministry of Culture of the Region of Murcia, the Catholic University Santa Antonio UCAM, the Group Folkloric 'City of Cartagena' of La Palma, the Our Father Jesús Nazareno Grouping, the Grouping of the Stma.

The two semifinals, Friday 19 January and Saturday 20 January, will be held at the Folklore House of La Palma from 9.30 pm and with free admission until full capacity is reached.

The final will take place on March 10 at the Church of Santa María de Gracia.

The singers Francisco Campos Esteban (Cartagena), Pepi Mantas (Córdoba), Rocío Belén Cuesta (Huelva), Jesús León Márquez (Mairena de Alcor, Seville), Aroa Cala Luque (Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz) and Leonor María will take part on Friday. Moreno (Seville).

On Saturday, seven other singers will be on stage;

Manuel Pérez (Huelva), Manuel Cuevas, son (Osuna, Sevilla), José Antonio Cuevas (Osuna, Sevilla), Marta Sevillano (Cádiz), Rosi Campos (Málaga), Miriam Cantero (Cáceres) and María José Flores (Sevilla).

This is the fifth edition of this national contest that offers the winners important prizes.

The first is endowed with 2,000 euros and a trophy made by the sculptor Fernando Sáenz Elorrieta.

The second prize is worth 1,000 euros and a trophy donated by the Our Father Jesus Nazareno, while the third has a prize of 700 euros and an image of the Mercy of the Association of the Stma.

There is also a runner-up endowed with 400 euros and a plaque from the Portapasos Agrupación de la Virgen Dolorosa.

As in previous years, the winners are obliged to interpret arrows during the processions of Holy Monday and Good Friday.
