Citizens request explanations in the Water Board about the blockade of the surplus of Hidrogea (15/01/2018)

- The local spokesman of Cs Cartagena, Manuel Padín, considers that there are executions that can not wait any longer as the improvements in the Wastewater Pumping Station (EBAR) of the Plaza de España, "which as already explained in the Plenary , requires expanding its capacity to substantially reduce discharges in La Algameca when there is a breakdown or heavy rains arrive. "

- Citizens have requested that the tenders charged to the surplus have maximum control and transparency

The Orange Training has requested this afternoon, in the Table of Monitoring and Control of the Water Contract, to clarify what happens with the surplus money of the concessionary company between 2011 and 2017, approximately 4.5 million euros that follow blocked and must serve to improve the supply network, sanitation and rainwater collection throughout the municipality.

The meeting, which was held in the Administrative Building of San Miguel, was chaired by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and was attended by members of the municipal government, spokespersons for all municipal political groups, technical different municipal areas and representatives of the service concessionaire, Hidrogea.

During the meeting, the new water tariff agreed for 2018 was approved and approved by the Local Government Board on December 29th, which will mean a monthly drop of about 8.29 euros for an average family. It is equivalent to a 15 percent reduction in the part of the receipt that corresponds specifically to water consumption.

Regarding the surplus, the local spokesman of Cs Cartagena, Manuel Padín, considers that there are executions, which must be charged to this money, which can not wait any longer as the improvements in the Wastewater Pumping Station (EBAR) of the Plaza de España, "which requires expanding its capacity to substantially reduce discharges in La Algameca when there is a breakdown or heavy rains arrive".

Manuel Padín recalled that the company's own technicians listed some of the most urgent tasks, "in addition to the necessary renovation of obsolete networks, it is necessary a tank of storms in the Mandarache area to reduce the risk of flooding, start polls underground for the drafting of the pluvial interceptor project on Salamanca Street, or provide the sanitation service to Perín, Galifa and Los Beatos ".

"In addition, we can not forget the generation of employment that occurs with the execution of these works that are covered mostly with professionals from Cartagena," said Padin.

The spokesman for Citizens stressed that "it is important the execution of these works, but also the inspection to the millimeter of the process chosen for its bidding so that all the criteria of transparency, publicity and justice that we can demand, be through the company or the City Council itself ".

The mayor has assured the spokesman of Citizens that the tenders of works charged to the surplus will have the maximum control and oversight by the City Council.

As for the exact amount, it has not been possible to specify the amounts corresponding to the years, 2015, 2016 and 2017;

Castejón has ensured that as soon as the new rates are adjusted, it will be known.

On the other hand, the Cs spokesman has reported that more than two years ago there is another blockade, this time caused by the delay in updating the agreement with the Regional Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Entity (Esamur), and which has stopped investing at least 1.5 million euros, which would go towards the replacement of collectors, the cleaning of facilities, and the construction of wastewater and sludge treatment systems in Isla Plana, Cabo de Palos, or in La Manga, as recently reported by the newspaper La Verdad, "explained the orange spokesman, who hopes" that this delay serves at least to have a much more advantageous agreement for Cartagena. "

Ana Belén Castejón has announced that next January 24 will have a meeting with Esamur, together with City Council technicians to update this issue.
