Citizens demand urgent measures to guarantee the survival of traditional commerce in Cartagena (03/01/2018)

- Among the actions that the orange training has proposed are the reactivation of the Local Council of Commerce, the execution of the agreement of February 2017 for the creation of a plan for the revitalization of local commerce, the execution of the plenary agreements of Cs for the crash plan of the Gisbert Market, the organization of awards, and the creation of the Week of Small Commerce, awareness campaigns, and online training courses for small entrepreneurs

The Municipal Citizens Group calls on the City Council to apply measures to encourage traditional trade in Cartagena, "not only in its aspect of employment generation but also as a pole of attraction that combines the idea of walking through our streets and pedestrian areas with go shopping, "said Orange spokesman Manuel Padín.

In this sense, the orange spokesman has claimed the reactivation of the municipal forum "in which all these measures have to be discussed, and welcome others, which is the Local Trade Council (meeting for the last time on March 31) which already It smells like closed and in which cobwebs begin to appear at the corners ".

Manuel Padín wonders what is useful to open councils and work tables "if then they are not filled with content, debate, proposals, and application of concrete and real actions".

According to the Cs spokesman, shops are facing, not only the presence of large stores, but the progressive increase of online commerce and changes in consumer habits and the support of the City Council is necessary to protect them as it is of a sector that generates many jobs and that is of paramount importance for the local economy, "the need to work on a plan for the revitalization of small businesses, or the 'plan to boost small businesses', is becoming clearer. proposed in February 2017 by the PP and approved unanimously and in which we have to assert the individualized attention and quality offered by these traditional businesses in the city and neighborhoods, and understand that ensuring their survival will prevent the abandonment of certain areas of the center and of some of our neighborhoods and councils ".

Some of the proposals of Citizens have already been taken to the municipal Plenary, as the plan of shock to recover the Gisbert Market, the creation of the Week of Small Commerce, and the organization of two prizes, one to reward some of the longest-running shops of the municipality and another that distinguishes the most innovative establishment, "but they are still not implemented and have not even been developed with the affected groups in the Municipal Council of Commerce".

The Cs spokesman has advanced that if "the Government of Cartagena continues to ignore the application of these proposals, we are willing to condition our support to the municipal budgets to the approval of amendments that reserve an economic match for them."

In addition to these proposals, the Citizens Group wants to bring others to the Commerce Council, "such as the possibility of convening courses so that small businesses gain online presence learning what is necessary to create an attractive corporate website and generate a business card in Google My Business or the best way to encourage and retain customers to improve your online reputation, create a virtual store and take advantage of social networks. "

"We also want the City Council to be involved in innovation and to value the possibility of creating a Portal of Commerce of Cartagena that integrates retail trade as restaurants today appear on the municipal website," the Cs spokesperson has proposed.

"We are full of ideas, but we know that none of this will work if we do not combine these actions with the necessary improvement of the urban space expanding the pedestrian zones, improving our streets and green spaces, or if we do not monitor the real impact to the actions and undertaken by the City Council as the application (App) Rushout ", added Manuel Padín.
