The Local Police launches a special campaign of traffic against alcohol and drugs (07/12/2017)

The Local Police, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Traffic, will carry out between 11 and 17 December a campaign of surveillance and control of alcohol and narcotics during driving in the municipality of Cartagena.

To ensure greater awareness of road safety in the face of these Christmas holidays, through the Judicial Police section of Cartagena traffic, various alcohol and drug tests will be carried out in the streets of the city.

The Road Safety Law is very strict regarding the consumption of narcotics, for this reason it prohibits driving with the presence of drugs in the body, although substances that are used under medical prescription and for therapeutic purposes are excluded.

On the other hand, the Criminal Code provides for drivers who circulate under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotics or psychotropic substances, prison terms of three to six months, fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit of the community. from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years.

The Road Safety Law, the General Circulation Regulations and the criminal code establish the regulations applicable to the maximum and specific limits for alcohol allowed during driving, which means that non-compliance with these rules is classified as a serious or very serious violation and it involves withdrawal of driving license and prison sentence, if applicable.

Alcohol is present as a concurrent or trigger factor in one third of fatal accidents.

Its presence in driving, depending on its rate, multiplies between 2 and 15 the risk of suffering an accident.
