The FICC brings Korea closer to Cartagena (28/11/2017)

The empire of the shadows', by filmmaker Kim Jee-won, inaugurated Monday the section 'Cartagena looks at Seoul'.

The first session was attended by representatives of ILBOC, a company with a South Korean majority capital and a sponsor of the FICC, and the Culture Councilor, David Martínez.

A section that brings to the city the best cinema in the Asian country, and in which today, March 28, two contemporary classics will be screened: at 6:00 pm 'El arco', by Kim Ki-Duk, a poetic and visual story about an old fisherman who finds a girl whom he protects with his magic bow with the intention of marrying her;

and at 8:00 pm 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', by Park Chan-Wook, the director of Oldboy, in which he presents another epic story of revenge.

The Caja Mediterráneo Foundation Culture Room hosts this film series.

PROGRAMMING WEDNESDAY 29

The film directed by the novel filmmaker Carla Simón 'Verano 1993' will be seen for the first time in Cartagena this Wednesday at 8:00 pm at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, as part of the 'Cineistas' section of the FICC46.

The film tells the story of Frida (Laia Artigas), a six-year-old girl who faces the first summer of her life with her new adoptive family after the death of her mother.

Far from her close environment, in the countryside, the girl must adapt to her new life.

The film has been awarded at festivals in Berlin and Malaga, as well as at the European Film Awards and at the Fénix Awards, among others.

In addition, she was recently selected to represent Spain in the next edition of the Oscars.

«Summer 1993» will be screened after the short films «My Other Shoe», by Daniel Zapata, and «Marta 94», by Ricardo Ibáñez Ruiz.

Official Section

The Official Feature Film Section will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the New Circus Theater with the French "The writing workshop", directed by Laurent Cantet.

In it Antoine attends a writing workshop in which a group of young people has been selected to write a police thriller with the help of Olivia, a famous novelist.

More worried about the fears of the modern world, the youth will soon clash with the group and with Olivia.

The film will be preceded by «Cachorro», a short film directed by Laurent Cantet.

Then, at 7:00 p.m., the spectators will be able to see «Matria», a short film by Álvaro Gago, and «Many children, a monkey and a castle», a feature film directed by actor Gustavo Salmerón.

It is a fun documentary that includes domestic filming in which the director portrays his mother, Julita, generating a story about the present moment, the family and the economic crisis.

The last session of the day at the Nuevo Teatro Circo will begin at 10pm with the short «Woody & Woody», by Jaume Carrió, which recreates a conversation between actor Woody Allen and himself at different ages.

He will continue with the feature film «Morir», by Fernando Franco.

This film revolves around Luis and Marta, two characters whose lives are paralyzed by the outbreak of a disease that is accompanied by guilt, lies and fear, thus putting the stability and love of the couple to the test.

PARALLEL SECTIONS

In the morning, the elementary students will see the animated film "Zootrópolis" in the section "Animated story" at 9:45 am and at 11:45 am.

In addition to "Summer 1993", the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center will host the projections of "The man who killed Liberty Valance", of the John Ford cycle of "Young Affected" (10:00 am).

In the afternoon you can watch the short films «Causa y efecto», by Luz Cutillas Paños, and «Eusebio80», by Jesús Martínez Nota and Iván Molina, accompanying «Faces and places» in the section 'Europa.doc' (17 : 00 hours).

The documentary "Faces and Places", signed by the artist Agnès Varda -recently awarded the Donostia Award at the San Sebastian Festival and recognized with the honorary Oscar 2018- and the photographer JR.

Together they roam the streets of France with the aim of meeting people with whom to exchange ideas and photograph them.

In the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation Culture Classroom, at 7:00 pm, the Korean film show 'Cartagena looks at Seoul' will continue.

This Wednesday he will do it with "On the beach at night alone", an alternative proposal directed by Hong Sang-soo.

In it, the actress Younghee decides to take some time after having an affair with a married man.

He travels to the foreign city of Hamburg, but that will not stop him from thinking about what he left behind.
