The cycle 'Cafés con-Ciencia y Pensamiento', scheduled for this quarter by Cartagena Piensa and the Department of Culture, concludes this Tuesday, November 28 with the symposium 'Surrogate pregnancy / womb rent: The moral debate'.
Speak on this occasion Antonio Hidalgo, of the Association of philosophy of the Region of Murcia, Alicia Poza, of the association '+ Women', and Josefina Jiménez Betancor, nurse and feminist scholar.
There is no doubt that we are facing one of the most current debates at this time, as it is the one that refers to the so-called 'hirings of rent' and that others prefer to call 'surrogate gestation', that is, a technique of assisted reproduction whereby a woman agrees to give birth to the child of another person or other persons, renouncing any relationship with the child.
The assumption, legalized in a few countries or states, has led to a great legal, social and moral controversy.
Are we facing a commodified or altruistic subrogation?
Is it an exercise in women's personal freedom or an expansion of the capitalist market that exploits women's bodies?
Should it be regulated or banned without further ado?
This topic will be addressed at the café con-ciencia de Cartagena Think Tuesday.
The meeting, as usual, will be held at 8:00 pm in the El Soldadito de Plomo café, on Calle Príncipe de Vergara, and will be presented by the charity Blázquez, from the Cartagena Piensa promoter group.
'CAFÉS WITH SCIENCE AND THOUGHT'
'Cafés con-Ciencia y Pensamiento' is a joint initiative organized by the Cartagena Piensa program and the Department of Culture.
The project was born last year with the vocation of recovering the tradition of Philosophical Cafés, the Parisian FiloCafé, which later spread to many cities around the world.
In this edition, which concludes tomorrow with a very positive balance of attendance, three symposia have been scheduled that have dealt with highly topical issues, such as tourism and its future, the 'taboo' of suicide, and this one of surrogate pregnancy / bellies for rent.
