The San Isidoro Institute is mobilized against gender violence (24/11/2017)

The students and students of the IES San Isidoro de Cartagena have mobilized this Friday in the educational center on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is commemorated every year on November 25.

The event, which has been attended by the Councilor for Equality and Education, David Martinez, who has dedicated a few words to the nearly 700 students and teachers who participated in the act, has had the reading of a manifesto by several members of the cloister and students of the institute, as well as a tribute to the victims of sexist violence, a performance and various protest posters prepared by the students.

After the mayor's speech and the reading of the manifesto has produced the most emotional moment, that of the tribute to the victims, with a sense and rigorous minute of silence and with the making of a tie made with paper flowers made by the students themselves .

The Councilor for Equality and Education has been pleased to see that the programs launched by his council in the institutes as the campaign 'If you feel drowned is not love' begin to bear fruit through acts such as these, in which It has involved the whole educational community of the center.

However, David Martinez has lamented that "there are still cases of machismo," which he considers "very sad and very hard" and believes that "it is very important to raise awareness among young people from education".

"It is not just a thing of the administrations," said the mayor, but in his opinion is up to everyone, and everyone has to do their part and not be impassive to eradicate this problem.

David Martinez has claimed that victims of gender violence "are not numbers or figures but there are lives behind" each case.

"Hopefully one year we can come here on November 25 and say that there has not been any woman murdered that year," he said.

The director of the center, Ángeles Martínez, explained that the objective of this initiative "was to raise awareness of children from the idea of micromachism to the murders that occur" and has been satisfied by the response of the students, which "has been very good. "

"It has been a very emotional act," said the director, who also noted that the students have left "more aware of the problem."

For its part, the guidance of the institute, Raquel Ruiz, has pointed out that sexist violence "is a problem for everyone" and "the whole center has responded very well".

The teacher has stressed that all the materials and manifestos have been prepared by the students.

"We wanted them to see that this is not news that comes out on television but it is something that starts here in them, at their age, in the patio, in their homes," clarified Ruiz.
