The Community trains 23 unemployed people from Cartagena in the hospitality sector (16/11/2017)

The students have completed their theoretical training in two courses and have completed professional internships in companies in the sector

A total of 23 unemployed from Cartagena have completed two occupational training courses in the Community that will allow them to increase their options to find a job in the hospitality sector, one of the most dynamic in the municipality, after specializing as room waiters and cooks.

These training actions, which have been developed in collaboration with the Agency for Local Development and Employment of Cartagena, have the subsidy of the Ministry of Employment, Universities and Enterprise, through the Employment and Training Service (SEF), and co-financing of the European Social Fund.

Thus, ten of these 23 unemployed have successfully completed the course of 'Restaurant services', with which they have acquired knowledge and skills to work as room waiters, heads of rank or heads of restaurant sector, among other posts .

For this they have had to complete 580 teaching hours that have approximated them to specific contents of this professional field such as the preparation and finishing of dishes in view of the client, safety, hygiene and environmental protection in the hotel industry.

In addition, the course has also included a professional English module for restaurant services.

For their part, the 13 unemployed who can now work as cooks after completing the 'Cooking' course have been trained for 810 hours in areas such as simple gastronomic offerings and systems of provisioning, pre-processing and conservation of food and cooking techniques and products, among others

Participants today received from the director general of the SEF, Alejandro Zamora, and the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, a certificate of professionalism of the specialty carried out, which accredits their skills and significantly increases their chances of finding a job in this sector.

Zamora stressed that "having a certificate of professionalism today is essential to be able to not only access the labor market, but also to stay in it, since more and more companies are demanding workers who can prove their ability to perform the activity for which they are hired. "

Both courses have included a module of non-work professional practices with a duration of 80 hours that have given participants the opportunity to put into practice the skills and knowledge learned during theoretical classes in hospitality companies in Cartagena.

Evolution of employment

Prior to the presentation of diplomas, Alejandro Zamora met with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, to address joint actions that serve to boost employment in the port city.

In addition, the meeting analyzed the evolution of employment in Cartagena, where 1,166 people left the unemployment lists in the last year, representing a decrease of 6.17 percent.

With regard to the creation of employment, the number of members of the Social Security has risen by 1,596 people over the last twelve months, representing an increase of 2.63 percent.
