The International Film Festival of Cartagena approaches Korea through its cinema (07/11/2017)

The 46th edition of the Cartagena International Film Festival, FICC, which takes place from November 26 to December 2, presents 'Cartagena looks at Seoul', a cycle dedicated to the most relevant recent Korean cinema that shows the great variety of records of this cinematography, which ranges from genre films to the most intimate proposals of auteur cinema.

The screenings will take place during the week of the festival, between Monday 27 and Thursday 30 November, in the Culture Classroom of the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation.

Admission will be free and free until full capacity is reached.

To open the show, on Monday 27 at 18:00 a presentation of the cycle will be made.

After her, 'The Empire of Shadows' (2016), by director Kim Jee-won, will be screened as an approach to Korean history at the beginning of the 20th century.

The film is about the Japanese occupation of Korea and the resistance movements prior to Korea's independence.

On Tuesday, November 28, viewers can enjoy a double program with the feature films 'The Bow' (2005), directed by Kim Ki-duk, at 18:00, and 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', Park Chan -wook (2005), at 8:00 p.m.

These are two contemporary classics that present simplicity and complexity in the productions of the 'New Wave of Korean Cinema' at the beginning of the 21st century.

On Wednesday 29, at 7:00 p.m., it will be the turn of the premiere of 'On the beach at night alone' (2017), a female portrait that deals with love, heartbreak and loneliness, directed by Hong Sang-soo , and that has the impeccable interpretation of Kim Min-hee, for which she won the Best Actress award at the last edition of the Berlin Festival.

Finally, on Thursday, November 30, at 7:00 pm, "Memories of murder" (2003), one of the most emblematic films of Korean cinema, by filmmaker Bong Jong-ho will be screened.

A rural thriller that introduces us to the Korea of ​​the 80s and that, through different characters, recreates the collective imagination during the process of democratic consolidation.

In addition, in the main street, and in front of the headquarters of the Culture Classroom of the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation, a large mural will be installed that will show outstanding information on the history of Korean cinema contextualized through a timeline.

In this way, the FICC aims to make the Korean culture and its outstanding cinematography known to the citizens of Cartagena.

The sample has the collaboration of ILBOC, a company dedicated to the production of lubricant bases of last generation, in its plant located in the Valley of Escombreras.
