The Garlopa awards, which celebrate its first edition, are awarded by the Brotherhood of Cardinal Mendoza de Cartagena.
The awards aim to highlight the work of those people who, with their work, their statements and daily action, defend the social and economic development of Cartagena and the Region of Murcia.
The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, was present in this first edition in which the president of the Croem, José María Albarracín, and the journalist, Ricardo Díaz Manresa, with two separate Garlopa awards.
The mayor was in charge of delivering the 'Local Garlopa Award' to Ricardo Manresa, for whom he had a few words of congratulations and recognition for the great work he does for this city.
The Brotherhood of Cardinal Mendoza of Cartagena, is a non-profit association born with the aim of fighting social injustice and help the integration of the most needy people of society, while rewarding the culture of effort, the overcoming, of the work and the honesty, as well as to preserve the natural values ​​of the region, customs and traditions.
The delivery of these awards was held at the Interempleo headquarters in Cartagena, located in the Gran Hotel de Cartagena building on C / Jara 31, on October 30th.
José María Albarracín, president of Murcia businessmen, received the 'Garlopa Regional Award', for his continuous complaints to public administrations to improve infrastructures.
On the other hand, journalist Ricardo Díaz Manresa received the 'Local Garlopa Award' for his continuous promotion of local traditions, Holy Week, the football team of Cartagena and the bullfighting world.
The two award winners were presented with an antique carpenter's brush with the knife to cut gold chips, symbol of these awards instituted by the Brotherhood of Cardinal Mendoza.
