The Batel recovers for the second year the performance of Don Juan Tenorio the eve of All Saints (11/10/2017)

Around the festival of All Saints' Day is a tradition in the Spanish theater the staging of the main work of José Zorrila "Don Juan Tenorio".

The Auditorium and Congress Center The Batel joins this meeting with the representation on 31 October of this classic of Spanish letters, by the Theater Company Friends of Tenorio directed by Elvira Pineda, and organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena, whose councilman, David Martinez, has appeared this morning with the director of the company to present the details of the work.

An event that represents "a recovery and exaltation of our most rooted traditions" has considered the councilman, who has said he is very happy that the city is recovering "the greatest popular drama in the history of the literature.

A tradition that during the last years has been displaced by other customs imported from other countries ".

He also emphasized that the work represented represents a unique opportunity to approach a prominent text of the history of literature, which is studied in the institutes and should be made known to new generations also on the tables of a stage

The Friends of Tenorio Theatrical Association, created in 2006 with the purpose of promoting the knowledge of the theater and, in particular, with the aim of encouraging the performance of activities around the play 'Don Juan Tenorio' will be in charge of interpret the work on stage.

This association consists of actors, producers, writers, writers, institute teachers, painters, sculptors, and other people related to the world of culture.

During the year, under the direction of Elvira Pineda, he staged the work of 'Don Juan Tenorio' in different stages from inside and outside the Region, in addition to other classical texts.

Pineda stressed that they have made an effort to bring this work to Cartagena "for the second consecutive year" on the day that must be represented "because of the insistence and the good treatment that has been given to them from the City Hall and the Auditorium.

Last year the representation was made before a crowded and very successful court of seats against a "public understood", like the one in Cartagena.

The text of the Tenorio that will be represented in El Batel will be complete, something Pineda has indicated that it is not possible in all theaters but that the technical characteristics of El Batel do allow it.

For this, the company will bring a team of 33 actors and 5 technicians, as well as a set of costumes and period costume that faithfully follows that of Seville of the sixteenth century.

The director is also a great knower of this work from which she made her thesis at the School of Dramatic Arts.

Tickets can be purchased on the website of the auditorium El Batel and in their lockers for € 12.

THE PLAY

This is the best known and representative work of the author Don José Zorrilla, which shows the figure of Don Juan Tenorio, seductive hardened who will do whatever it takes to carry out his numerous achievements.

Thus, in one of his frequent amatory and courageous brags against his many victories and enemies, he is going to confront Don Luis Mejia, seducing his betrothed Doña Inés, a novice promised to him by Don Gonzalo and broken the pact after the bet with Don Luis.

However, the commander goes in search of his daughter and, when finding Don Juan, they end up locked in a duel in which the father of Doña Inés is murdered.

At the same time, Don Luis Mejia, wanting to avenge that his betrothed was seduced by Don Juan, will end up dying in his hands.

The theater association Amigos del Tenorio tries to rescue Zorrilla's text, as well as the unforgettable characters of Don Juan and Dona Inés, Brígida, Don Luis and Dona Ana, Ciutti, etc.

For this it counts on a large cast of actors under the direction of a woman of theater, Elvira Albero Pineda, granddaughter of the actor Cecilio Pineda.

Elvira Pineda, a director of theater and actress, has been incarnated for many years in Brígida, and managed to transport us to Seville in 1545, in the last years of King Charles I of Spain.
