The Folk Festival of Cartagena will fill the port with music (04/10/2017)

The Folk Festival of Cartagena 2017 returns to the Esplanade of the Port on October 20, 21 and 22 to bring to the city the best national folk through seven groups and a DJ.

Three days of concerts at a musical event organized for the second consecutive year by the City Council of Cartagena, as recalled in the presentation of the festival the Councilor of Culture of Cartagena, David Martinez, who has appeared with the director of Culture, Fulgencia Plazas.

All the concerts are free except for the one that will take place on Sunday 22, in charge of the great Galician training Luar na Lubre, which closes the festival with a single concert in the Auditorium of El Batel, at 19.00 hours, with a price of 15 euros

It is the second consecutive year in which the City Council organizes this festival, which the Department of Culture returned last year after 12 years since the disappearance of the folk festival between 2001 and 2004, and has returned "to stay", has wanted to emphasize the councilman.

Cartagena has "an old idyll with music", pointed out the mayor, who has highlighted the celebration in Cartagena of renowned music festivals in the world as 'The Sea of ​​Music' or Jazz, with the Cartagena Jazz Festival, but also with classical music and other types of music.

Thus, the Folk Festival of Cartagena, which will fill with root sounds while the current port throughout the weekend with a sample of the most notable folk production of several autonomous communities, with the participation of groups from Galicia, Basque Country , Valencia, Castilla la Mancha and the Region of Murcia.

THE PROGRAM

The group Murcia Túa, offered during the appearance an advance, to the rhythm of acoustic guitar, flute and bagpipe, of what will be heard on Friday, October 20, starting at 9 pm at the opening of the festival.

The group brings their repertoire of Irish, Galician-Asturian, Scottish or Breton music, reinterpreted and elaborated with their own style that includes their latest album "Coordinates: North-South".

That Friday will complete the program the Valencians Badlands, "a relatively young formation but that extracts their sounds of traditions rooted as they are the country, the folk or the bluegrass, and that already they have passed successfully by festivals so recognized as the Primavera Sound, the Low Festival, the Festival of Arts ", explained the Director of Culture.

Already on Saturday 21st the program will start at noon with a family concert by La Cicha Charcos and The Katiuskas Band, a Castilian-Spanish group that mixes music, poetry and stories that children and adults will enjoy.

In the afternoon, from 17:00, the M. Lacroix DJ, a great connoisseur of the present and the history of music that will bring his mix of eclectic music and for all tastes.

The main dish Saturday will come from the hand of Los Hermanos Cubero and the Xarnege group.

From 22:00 hours onwards, the Cuberos Brothers will take to the stage with their folk rhythms from the Alcarria, which combine perfectly with the bluegrass in their lyrics and punctuation songs.

They will be followed by the Xarnegue Basques with their frontier work between the Basque folklore and the Gascon.

The festival will conclude on Sunday with two concerts.

The first at 13:00 hours, in which you can listen to the Valencian group Innerlands, which return us to the Celtic world with its Mediterranean touch.

This group started with four musicians and now it is eight members, which counts among them with "the feminine voice and full of nuances" of Amanda Vicent.

To close this edition of the festival will perform in the Auditorium of El Batel at 19:00 hours, in the only concert of payment at a price of 15.00 €, a group that is one of the most prestigious references of the Galician folk, Moonlight in Lubre.

The poster of this edition, Martínez has pointed out, is the work of the María Molla designer and illustrator from Murcia, who has a great international exposure with works that have been seen in publications in Italy, China, Japan or Denmark.

The councilman of Culture has highlighted the good data of last year, in which more than 10,000 people went through the various concerts of the festival of Folk, "which is a clear indicator of the interest and appreciation that this type of music," while it has shown its desire that the edition of this year surpasses the amounts of 2016.
