Cartagena receives 20% more visitors for the festivals of Carthaginians and Romans (25/09/2017)

The 28th edition of the Festivals of Carthaginians and Romans has been a success.

The influx of public to acts and parades has risen 20%, according to the data of the City of Cartagena.

"We are very satisfied with the Carthaginians and Romans, there was a lot of crowds in practically all the events and in the parades there was a lot of public, as well as in the camp, the festers have made a great effort to improve their acts and parades and the answer of the public has been magnificent, "said the acting mayor, Juan Pedro Torralba.

As for the influx of visitors and tourists, the acting mayor has also been satisfied because "hotels have registered an occupation close to 65 percent, while in the deposits of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas has experienced an increase in number of visitors ".

In fact, in Puerto de Culturas the number of visits to the deposits has grown by 6% over the same period last year.

The centers that have increased their visits have been, in order: the Barrio del Foro Romano, the Tourist Bus, the Elevator, the Castle of the Conception, the Museum of the Roman Theater and the Punic Wall.

Juan Pedro Torralba also wanted to highlight the great work carried out by the municipal brigades, State Security bodies, firefighters, local police and civil protection.

"The festeros are the cornerstone of Carthaginians and Romans and the members of the brigades and of the security bodies are the pillar on which they support," he said.

On the other hand, Councilor for Citizen Security, Francisco Aznar, stressed that there have been no relevant incidents, except for an altercation in the festive camp this weekend and 5 assists for alcoholic poisoning last Saturday.

Francisco Aznar recalled that, due to the alert situation 4 that has been decreed in Spain, the Local Police has been promoted by installing mobile barriers in each of the different crossings, both in the route of the parades and in the Festive camp.

LAST WEEKEND OF THE HOLIDAYS

Throughout the last three days of the festivities there have been some of the most anticipated events among the festers and also among the large number of visitors that has received the city.

On Friday the re-enactment of the Battle by Qart Hadast was celebrated on the slope of the Batel in which hundreds of members of the troops and legions participated.

On Saturday took place the great parade of Troops and Legions in which the festive ones showed their best finery.

Finally, the XXVIII edition of the Festivals of Carthaginians and Romans was closed last night with the Sacred Fire Shutdown Ceremony and a large fireworks display that illuminated the sky of Cartagena with its bright and colorful shapes.

The ceremony began with the parade of the sacred fire, which carried a boy and a girl, followed by Hannibal and Himilce, Scipio and Emilia Paula, the four with torches, and the banners of the 50 troops and legions.

After his arrival to the stage the fire was extinguished in a puffer full of water, first the generals and their women, and finally the president of the Federation of Troops and Legions next to the presidents of Council and Senate, proceeded to the extinction of the torch of the Sacred Fire.

After the shutdown, the president of the Federation, José Antonio Mecca, thanked the great effort of all the festers to achieve the best result in the first edition Carthagineses and Romans as a festival of International Tourist Interest.

Then the acting mayor, Juan Pedro Torralba, had a word of thanks and congratulations to the Local Police, Fire Brigades and Municipal Brigades, for their effort and good work so that these holidays unfold without incident.

The ceremony ended with a castle of fireworks that for about 20 minutes lit the night sky and served as a noisy farewell until the beginning of the XXXIX edition of Carthaginians and Romans.
