The UPCT-Useful Wastes entrepreneurship course is born to attract UPCT alumni innovation to the Region (18/09/2017)

The Rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, has signed an agreement with the founding partners of the startup Useful Wastes, Ricardo Martínez and Cristina Varona, both alumni of the Higher Technical School of Agronomic Engineering, to create the UPCT-Useful Wastes entrepreneurship course in order to attract the innovation of university graduates to the Region.

Both UPCT engineers founded it during the YUZZ entrepreneurship program at the UPCT.

Subsequently, they were selected by the Orizont accelerator, located in Pamplona and is one of the most important in international terms in the agri-food sector.

During the signing of the agreement, the Rector has emphasized the University's commitment to support the graduates of the Polytechnic to help them create their own companies and that are in contact with the research groups of the educational institution.

He has also highlighted the activity of this startup consisting of reducing and mitigating the generation of nitrates in the Cartagena field.

On the part of the company, Ricardo Martínez, has stated that with the signing of this agreement they intend to 'be an impulse' so that the students of the Polytechnic 'begin to work on their projects and see that they can be a reality.

"They are graduating with fantastic ideas from the university and that has to be encouraged," he added.

The agreement provides for collaboration in research through national and international projects in scientific publications and doctoral theses, as well as the promotion of expert meetings through national and international conferences and congresses.

In addition to this, the chair will participate in activities such as the Campus Chair and Engineering and Business and will organize training courses and encourage the participation of students in this type of entrepreneurial projects through awards to the works of End of Degree and Master's degree and fee exemption scholarships.
