The Roman Theater Museum of Cartagena increases visits by 14% in August and marks a new record (07/09/2017)

The Teatro Romano de Cartagena and its museum, whose patronage is made up of the Community, the City Council and the Cajamurcia Foundation, received 14% more visitors than last year, reaching 31,500 people and marking a new record of affluence.

In the first eight months of 2017, there are already 151,163 visitors who have passed through the Roman Theater, which represents a growth of almost five percent.

"A figure that consolidates the monumental complex as the most visited museum in the Region of Murcia and one of the most outstanding in all of Spain," according to the director general of Cultural Heritage, Juan Antonio Lorca.

The director general emphasized "the constant increase of visitors since the opening, nine years ago, of this space become a reference for the recovery of our heritage and cultural tourism in our Region, where work continues to increase visitor numbers and the loyalty of the public increasing the offered services and with new exhibition projects and promotion policies ".

From tomorrow (20:00 hours), Lorca advanced, "the Museum of the Roman Theater will be one of the headquarters of a new exhibition of the collective ArtNostrum, made up of artists from the Region, an exhibition that will recall the history of Cartagena and its Roman past ".

The Tours of Sirvs', organized by the Roman Theater Foundation and the Federation of Carthaginians and Romans.

The project brings together over a hundred works by 16 artists from the Region (painters, sculptors, photographers ...), who recover the classic heritage of the city of Cartagena from the perspective of contemporary art, uniting past and present.

Under the curatorship of Javier Lorente, artists Marcos Amorós, Pérez Casanova, Kraser, Luis Marino, Piedad Martínez Torres, Belén Orta, Álvaro Peña, Fernando P. Sáenz de Elorrieta, Olga Rodríguez Pomares, Rosana Sitcha, Salvador Torres, Antonio Vidal Máiquez, Javier Lorente, Esteban Bernal, Jorge García AznaryTorregar.

The trips of Sirvs', which will also have another seat in the Palace Hall of Cartagena, will remain open until next November 5.

Until September 30, the museum can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

From October, it will resume the winter timetable: from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Most foreign visitors

Since the opening of the Museum of the Roman Theater in Cartagena, on July 11, 2008, it has been visited by almost a million and a half people.

The different actions of improvement have allowed to increase the numbers of influx during the last years and to improve in the surveys of satisfaction of the public.

In the past 2016, the museum was recognized with the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence thanks to the comments received.

The satisfaction of visitors after visiting the Roman Theater has achieved a rating of 4.5 out of 5 points, thus achieving a position among the best museums in the country.

Regarding the origin of visitors so far this year, 47 percent are nationals.

The majority (three out of ten) are from the Region of Murcia, but also from other communities such as Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Catalonia.

Foreign visitors remain the majority and account for 53 percent of visits.

Almost half are English citizens, and it also receives numerous people from Russia, France and Germany.

During the same period, 68% of the visits were of an individual nature and the rest belonged to groups, especially those organized by travel agencies and also activities carried out in schools throughout the Region, as well as of Albacete, Alicante and Almería.
