Three days of festivities in honor of San Gines On Thursday will be the proclamation of the fiestas in honor of the patron saint of Cartagena that culminate on Saturday with the traditional Romería (22/08/2017)

In a special year celebrating the 340th anniversary of San Gines de la Jara being named patron saint of Cartagena in a providential election, the feasts in honor of the saint will begin this Thursday, August 24, with a parade and floral wreath Neighborhood of San Ginés from 20:00 hours.

Upon arrival at the parish church at 8:30 p.m., the proclamation of the feasts will be held, which this year will be held by the Archpriest of Cartagena Fernando Gutiérrez Reche, parish priest of San Antonio María Claret, whose congregation was housed in the Chapel of the Council of the Cathedral of Santa Maria the image of San Ginés, witness of the refoundation of the Brotherhood 100 years ago.

The solemn Mass in honor of San Ginés will be celebrated the following day, Friday 25, from 19 hours and will then be processed with the image of the saint by the avenue Ingeniero de la Cierva.

On arrival at the temple there will be a traditional sale of rolls of Pan de San Ginés, for the benefit of the Ladies of Carmen, and a chocolate with buns and lemonade of San Ginés.

The new Liquor de la Jara can also be purchased.

At events on both Thursday and Friday, those who wish are invited to wear regional costumes for the occasion.

Some costumes that will add color to the pilgrimage of Saturday 26, to which all Cartagena people are invited.

The pilgrims will begin to concentrate in front of the Basilica of the Charity from 8:00 hours.

From 8:30 will take place the floral offering to the patron and the Eucharist to be officiated by the chaplain of the brotherhood Lázaro Gomáriz.

After the blessing, on foot, in wagon and on horseback, he will leave in pilgrimage to Llano del Beal, where this year ends the procession.

The first stop will be the parish of San Ginés, where chocolate and buns will be distributed to replenish forces.

The route will be made through Caridad, Serreta, López Pinto, Angel Bruna, Alfonso XIII, Juan de la Cosa, Jacinto Benavente, Engineer of the Cierva.

The next stop, scheduled at 12:15 hours, will be in the chapel to the Virgin of the Charity in the Aparecida, where the Association of Neighbors will offer to the pilgrims wine and typical sausages of the earth.

From there you will depart towards the hermitage of Roche where at 14:00 hours will take place the food: a giant paella that will be distributed among the participants.

When the table is finished, the path will be taken to Los Camachos, where a floral offering will be made to the Immaculate Conception and distributed among the pilgrims to the heat.

The penultimate stop will be the Strait of San Ginés, in the church of San Nicolás de Bari, from where the wagons will head towards the Llano del Beal where it is expected to arrive at 20:30 hours to finish the pilgrimage with the neighbors of the Locality in its Popular Fiestas in a Great Verbena that will be extended until the dawn.

FESTIVALS OF THE BARRIADA DE SAN GINÉS

The district of San Ginés will celebrate its celebrations in which are integrated the acts organized by the Brotherhood of San Ginés.
