Its 'Strategy for colonization of degraded urban spaces' is designed to respond "progressively to the demand for housing that generates the historic center," explains the new architect titled by the Polytechnic of Cartagena.

La alumna has cataloged up to 69 spaces that are, in many cases, a source of dirt, and "give a feeling of degradation, to the point that it has been used to set the war in Iraq," he recalls.

Concrete in the Plaza de la Merced, currently used as a parking lot next to the Muram, for which it has designed a building with a Center for Citizen Initiatives, for collaborative activities on the ground floor, housing for researchers, with common work areas and Study, and a greenhouse on the roof with vegetation that falls on the facade to provide shade and humidity and contribute to the thermal shock absorber and increased comfort that also pursues the double skin of slats of the building, which provides greater insulation and ventilation .

The design, based on a system of movable band with linear configuration of the uses and a great central corridor, to guarantee the ventilation and illumination of all the spaces, is thought to adapt to the different voids of the historical, narrow and elongated, with Majority orientation Southeast-Northwest.

The structure of the building designed reinterprets the configuration of the characteristic facades of Cartagena, with balcony and viewpoint, reproducing through layers the generation of different spaces and uses.

Rosa Ros, who started the project as an undergraduate student in the UPCT's Chairs Network, is already looking for a name for the study of architecture she has assembled with another colleague in Castellini Square.
