Jose Lopez oversees the state of the archaeological area of ​​Monte Sacro that will host the Campus Ciudad de Cartagena (22/06/2017)

The first deputy mayor and councilor of the area of ​​Sustainable Development, José López, visited this morning the environment of Monte Sacro where, from July 2, will be developed the I University Campus of Practices and Archaeological Training 'Ciudad de Cartagena '.

López has been accompanied by the general coordinator of the area of ​​Sustainable Development, Jesús Giménez, the manager of Casco Antiguo, Antonio García, as well as by municipal technicians.

The responsible for Sustainable Development has verified the state of this archaeological area in which have been carried out cleaning and conditioning due to the imminent start of the Campus.

The University Campus of Archaeological Practices and Training 'Ciudad de Cartagena', which will run until July 30, is organized by the Council of Archaeological Heritage of the City of Cartagena and the municipal society Casco Antiguo, next to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena , University of Murcia and the National University of Distance Education, being the first time that the three public universities of the Region collaborate together to develop a Campus.

This is one of the initiatives promoted from the City of Cartagena and Casco Antiguo to act on the Mount Sacro.

It is worth remembering that, at the end of last year, georadar probes were carried out in this environment, detecting Roman remains found at a shallow depth (30 centimeters in some cases).

NEW SPACE FOR PUBLIC USE IN MONTE SACRO

On the other hand, López has also known the works already finalized of redefinition of the new space of public use that is going to execute in the extreme east of Monte Sacro, in front of the street Sor Francisca Armendáriz.

This action, promoted from Casco Antiguo, includes the construction of a public park with a fountain, landscaped areas, new streets, a new traffic channeling, the withdrawal of aerial wiring, as well as the replacement of the existing transformer.
