Cartagena Thinks, the city opens a way to the disclosure (19/06/2017)

The University of Murcia and the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena join forces to collectives and citizenship, a fusion of scientific dissemination and philosophical reflection that is included in an ambitious project: Cartagena Piensa.

Workshops, colloquia and activities that every month pretend to fill the streets of the city with the best of both branches

Cartagena Piensa presents colloquiums, talks, workshops and cycles for all audiences and oriented in two fundamental axes: science and philosophy.

Although the project has the support of the City of Cartagena, it is born from and for citizenship, with a single objective: to bring scientific culture and reflection to society in the most participatory way possible.

The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Murcia, as one of the bases of the project, is responsible for bringing to the port city the best philosophers of this institution as well as other national universities.

But you can not only learn from these branches.

You can find cycles of different topics, for example this June will be the conference Lgtbiq Vocabulary: it is not said 'politically correct', says 'treat people with respect', on the occasion of Pride Week, hand Of the professor of English Philology Begoña Martínez Pagán, in collaboration with the Collective Galactyco.

It will not be the first time that professors from the University of Murcia, from very different branches of philosophy, come to impart different cycles such as the recent "Transformations of the Rural World in the Region of Murcia," in which we could know visions Of Pilar de la Rua (Veterinary), Elena Gadea, (Sociology) and José María Egea (Biology).

The germ of this project arose with the arrival of the new culture coordinator, Patricio Hernández, because of a proposal initiated in November 2015, a conference in the El Batel Auditorium, in which citizens were invited to participate in activities oriented Towards the graphic arts, philosophy, science, etc.

For the future, the members of the project have a goal: "to reach an immense minority and work with the Neighborhood Associations, that is, to a wider territory because, although most activities are held in the city, in the Cultural center Ramón Alonso Luzzy, we also want to be decentralizers and bring the dissemination to the greatest possible people, "explains María Jesús Morillas, a member of the project.

Thanks to its efforts and the personal involvement of numerous municipal libraries in the area, Cartagena Piensa has already moved to neighborhoods and districts such as El Algar, Pozo Estrecho or La Manga.

Although this summer the project will take a breather, it will return next October loaded with forces and new ideas, so that with the union of all bring science to anyone who wishes to learn from it.
