Fish with Art teaches this month to cook the lean (16/06/2017)

The program 'Pescados con Arte', organized by the Columbares Association and with which the City Council of Cartagena collaborates, will teach cooking this lean month marinated in file on tomato gelee and Thai salad by the hand of the chef Martín Pérez Larios, in the Restaurant Undersun (Shopping Center Las Sabinas, s / n La Manga Club 30389 Cartagena).

The activity will be held on June 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The lean will be provided by the Fishermen's Guild of Cartagena.

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of artisanal fishing and marine reserves of fishing interest.

The cooking workshop is aimed at adults from 16 years and has a capacity limited to 22 participants, requiring prior registration by writing an email before June 22 to carmen.molina@columbares.org (indicating the name and surname of the participant and telephone contact).

This activity comes in a very special month, as on 8 June, World Oceans Day was celebrated, an opportunity to recognize its importance for the health of the planet.

Fish with Art focuses every month on a species of fish caught with artisanal fishing gear, being in June the turn of the lean (Lithognatus mormyrus), a species that lives in sandy bottoms with little slope and shallow waters, usually between the 10 and 20 meters, and on seagrass meadows, and that can live for about 12 years.

During the breeding season, this species forms large banks of intense silver color, feeding on worms, small crustaceans and mollusks.

The skinny has a peculiar characteristic: it changes of sex with the age, being first male and later female, what is known like "pro-hermaphrodite or sequential".

These activities come after the success of the kitchen workshop last month, focused on the melva, whose tab with the recipe can be downloaded on the Columbares Association website.

Fish with Art is a commitment of the Department of Industry, Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Coastal of the City of Cartagena to value the artisanal fishing of the coast of Cartagena.

A selective form of fishing, respectful to the environment and with little impact on habitats of high ecological value such as the Posidonia oceanica prairies, which also promotes local consumption and proximity.

But artisanal fishing is also culture and gastronomy, a traditional way of life with important social importance for the economy of Cartagena.

For the development of this initiative, the City Council has the Columbares Association, in collaboration with the Cartagena Fishermen's Guild, the University of Murcia and the Association Amureco, in addition to the gastronomic advice of Alberto Hernando Magadan.
