The British engineering group OSL places its Iberian headquarters in Cartagena and will train UPCT students. The company is already working on several projects in Spain and also in the North Sea and from Cartagena will be managed projects to service (12/06/2017)

The British company Optimus Services Limited (OSL), through its OSL Iberia branch, will work from its headquarters in Cartagena - the only one in Spain - in various petrochemical and energy sector projects around the world, especially in Spain and Portugal and in the Spanish-speaking market.

It will also incorporate to its workforce engineers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) through the training plan they are going to implement.

The mayor of Cartagena, José López, received this Monday the representatives of this British engineering group.

The director of OSL, Alastair Robertson, the director of OSL Iberia, Fernando Rodríguez, the tax adviser of OSL, Horacio García, and the legal adviser of OSL Javier Pérez, have presented to the first edil their project and they have released the activity Which the merchant will develop in the port city from now on.

OSL is a British engineering group with international presence that develops and implements solutions of high added value for the energy and industrial sector, specifically for companies that are engaged in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons and natural gas and certain areas in sustainable energy.

In early 2017 the company chose Cartagena to establish its engineering center in Spain, which was located in the Cabezo Beaza Industrial Estate in February.

Thus, from this headquarters will cover clients from all over the peninsula and Latin America and develop projects that it carries out all over the world.

The flexibility due to the geographical situation and the connections with the airports of San Javier and Alicante is one of the reasons that have led OSL to opt to settle in Cartagena, since they allow some of the people employed here to participate in projects in the United Kingdom As well as specialists in the UK who come to support frequently.

The objective of the company is to have a team of between 35 and 40 specialists, as explained by the director of OSL Iberia, Fernando Rodríguez, and foresees an investment of approximately one million euros.

In this sense we are looking for people with a very characteristic profile, such as engineers specialized in petrochemical projects - oil and gas - and energy projects, mainly.

Another of the reasons that have led to OSL being fixed in the port city is the potential offered by the UPCT.

The possibility of collaborating and hiring the students trained in their classrooms especially attracts the leaders of the company and, for this reason, they have a training plan of four years in march that will allow that during the first year a total of Five people to the staff of 35 employees with which to start, and another ten in the second year.

Graduates and graduates who benefit from this program would become part of the company once this process is completed.

In the long term, it is expected that a total of 30 students will graduate in the company in areas such as extraction of hydrocarbons in ultra-deep waters, development of marginal sites, submarine plants, reduction of CO2 emissions or offshore wind generation.

The purpose of OSL is to seek the balance between clean energy sources and traditional sources of high efficiency and low emissions.

The mayor, José López, has shown his willingness to "welcome you with open arms" and to make himself available to you, both from the mayor's office and from the Sustainable Development Area he directs, "to make all the procedures easier" .

For the first mayor "Cartagena is needed to settle on the map, to have companies that come from outside", so the arrival of OSL Iberia is something "good for Cartagena and good for the Polytechnic".

Fernando Rodríguez, for his part, commented that it is "a pride to be in Spain and in Cartagena", as the city meets all the requirements that the company needed, "and help generate jobs."

The director of OSL Iberia explained that the port city "is one of the main industrial petrochemical centers in Spain" and that there are "potential local customers" as well as companies that are dedicated to the sector and with which they can collaborate.

OSL Iberia is currently working on two projects: one for Repsol, outside Cartagena, and another for Cepsa, in Huelva.

It also does so in the North Sea, in the United Kingdom.

These are technical studies in refineries to solve different types of situations and scenarios.

This company also offers its services to other companies of the sector like BP, Shell or Total.
