Plenary calls for more funding for the State Pact on gender-based violence and maintenance of adult education courses (02/06/2017)

The plenary of the City Council of Cartagena has unanimously approved a joint motion of the groups of PSOE and CTSSP with adhesion of MC in which urges the Government of the Nation to increase the budget for the State Pact against Gender Violence in, Less, 120 million euros for the integral prevention of gender violence and 40 million for the Equal Opportunities program between men and women.

The motion compares the figure that the state will invest in prevention of traffic accidents about 740 million euros, according to the Government's Macro-survey of 2015, 2.5 million women suffer violence within the couple, and 1.5 Millions suffer from sexual violence outside the couple.

A motion of the socialist group, presented by councilman, David Martínez, with the support of MC, was also unanimously approved, urging the Council of Government of the Autonomous Community and the Ministry of Education to maintain the teaching for adults who have been doing In the centers of Lo Campano, La Puebla, El Algar as well as those that have been given in the Institute Antonio Arévalo and in the Institute of Secondary of Santa Lucía.

INSTITUTIONAL DECLARATION OF LGBT PRIDE

On the other hand, the plenary has unanimously approved an institutional statement on the occasion of the International Day of Pride LGTB, next June 28, which calls for the role of Local Government to make equality between all people as a gate Of direct and real entrance of the feeling of citizenship, and guarantor of citizen coexistence and non-discrimination of lesbian, gay, transsexual, bisexual and intersexual.

Equally, their role as essential agents in the design and development of transverse and strategic policies that guarantee equality of treatment and non-discrimination is claimed.

Finally, it is recognized the need to invest in policies in favor of sexual diversity and non-discrimination of people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity through the development of programs and projects of attention, information, training and awareness that make our Cities and towns safe spaces for sexual diversity;

And it is affirmed that equality policies are not possible without the municipalities, requesting that the Local Authorities be given the competences in this matter as well as sufficient means and resources, in collaboration with the Government and the autonomous communities to ensure the implementation Of all policies and initiatives necessary to ensure the effective equality of persons in all towns and cities.
