The National Reference Center of Cartagena begins to work with the Ministry of Employment in the training of professionals in the chemical sector (27/05/2017)

The center, integrated in the SEF, offers training to about 500 students per year in the professional areas of the Chemistry family

The National Reference Center of Cartagena, dependent on the Regional Employment and Training Service (SEF), this week constituted its Social Council after it was declared by the central Government in February as a national reference center in the family of Chemistry.

The constitution of this body, which is represented by the Ministries of Employment and Education, SEF, trade unions and the Spanish Chemical Industry Business Federation (Feique), involves the establishment of a joint work plan that will allow the detection of needs Training of the chemical sector with the aim of training the professionals who demand in each moment.

In addition to the study of training needs for employment, among its functions as a national reference center is also the design of certificates of professionalism, the application of methods for the qualification of workers, as well as collaboration with the business sector for the search And development of new programs that respond to the demands of the state-of-the-art production systems.

After this first meeting, the SEF's director general, Alejandro Zamora, underlined "the impetus that has been given to the center to have been declared a national benchmark, because it will allow it to become the guiding light for training in all areas of The professional family of Chemistry, both at the regional and national levels. "

Zamora also noted that "this joint work will facilitate the design of new courses to form profiles that, even without professional certification at present, are highly demanded in areas related to the chemical sector, such as pharmacochemistry or Of the plastic, industries that are generating many jobs and that need specialists ".

In addition to the specialized training, another of the tasks of these centers of national reference is their direct contact with the business fabric.

Since its inception, Cartagena has maintained relations with the most representative companies in its environment, and especially with those in the chemical sector, such as Repsol-Petroleum, Repsol-Lubricantes, Sabic or Navantia, among others.

High qualification

Chemical professionals are among the most specialized and qualified in the business field, so they require a high level of training.

In this way, the Cartagena National Reference Center constantly changes its offer and currently offers high level and technical training in the areas of 'Analysis and control', 'Chemical process',' Pharmachemistry ',' Pasta , Paper and cardboard 'and' Transformation of polymers of the professional chemical family '.

The National Reference Center of Cartagena teaches between 25 and 30 courses per year and trains more than 500 students.

With regard to the courses that it develops throughout this year, the offer rises to 34, since it has included seven courses of key competences.

As for the level of insertion of these courses, which varies according to the specialty, between 40 and 60 percent of the students who are trained in the Center find work once their training is completed.
