MC asks CARM to build a Center for Integrated Studies of Music and Dance next to the Cartagena Conservatory (18/05/2017)

The municipal group MC will present at the next plenary session of the City of Cartagena, which will be held on June 2, a proposal to urge the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of CARM to build a new building annexed to the Conservatory with the objective To create a Center of Integrated Studies of Music and Dance.

Thus, through the councilman of the area of Culture and Heritage, Ricardo Segado, the Cartagena formation will move this concern because "Cartagena is a city in which the interest in music and music education has been evident since time immemorial It has an almost Centennial Conservatory, bands, both civil and military, large and sole, and a tradition in flamenco cante only comparable to some areas of Andalusia, "said the mayor.

In this sense, Segado has highlighted that there are now more than 120 students who are participating directly in the Integrated Timetable Program (IHP) that the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has launched, "there is an increasing demand, as Is demonstrated in applications for admission to the Conservatory, with many students unable to access it each year.

The PHI, although it fulfills an important mission, the one of humanizing the schedules of the students, is insufficient for the existent interest by the music in the city.

"For this reason we must tackle a much more ambitious and practically pioneering project in Spain, because only two centers like the one we propose below, located in the Community of Madrid, are carried out throughout the country," said Ricardo Segado.

Specifically, it is the creation of a Center for Integrated Studies of Music and Dance in which the compulsory education, from the third elementary school to the end of high school, and Music Teaching And Dance.

In this way, for all the mentioned courses, units would be created with students who would receive all their classes in the morning.

In the evenings this same center would teach music classes, acting only as a Conservatory for those who were not interested in integrating the teachings and wanted to follow their musical studies separately.

"The implementation of such a project," continued the councilman, "requires an extra effort on the part of all levels of the educational administration. Therefore, it will be necessary to create a new curriculum, both at the general education level Such as music and dance, for students who are part of it, as well as the construction of a new building according to the needs that the center will carry implicit.

For this second point, the Cartagena City Council would cede for the construction of an Integrated Music and Dance Center five thousand square meters in the plot attached to the current Conservatory, which added to the existing property, are estimated enough for this purpose.

Thus, it would also alleviate the school pressure suffered by IES Ibn Arabí and the schools in the area.

In short, stressed Ricardo Segado, "the commitment of the municipal group MC with this project is demonstrated with the offer of the mayor to build the building on municipal land, an issue that added to the action of the CARM, should lead to the city And to the Region to the place that by tradition corresponds to him: being at the head of the musical education in Spain ".
