At the event, the counselor recalled that "in these years, the quality of services has grown exponentially and today, this center is a national pointer in the therapy that is provided through its multi-sensorial stimulation classrooms, Cognitive stimulation or in the use of animal therapies. "

This center has 100 places, 80 residential care and 20 day center, which are subsidized through the Institute Murcian Social Action IMAS, with more than 5.6 million euros.

The Center for People with Disabilities in Quarries currently has activities to develop to the maximum the capabilities of its residents.

Violante Tomás said that "they are offering levels of normalization as close as possible to the environment that surrounds them. "

The residence provides disabled people with comprehensive care that can not be carried out in the family environment, either because of lack of it or due to the existence of serious difficulties.

The programs that are carried out are established by the technical team of the center.

The areas are: daily life skills, computer programs, multisensory stimulation, audiovisual projections, alternative communication, leisure and free time, knowledge of environment, road education, physiotherapy, sport and theater.

Two months ago began with the therapy with dogs and after this first phase has already activated the therapy with horses.

The goal is to perform the therapies alternatively every three months, in order to maximize their benefits for the people served.

An average of 320 people a month, 280 are people with disabilities, 40 of each of the centers of disabled people of the IMAS, already benefit from this initiative, to which are added another 40 elderly people from the Virgen del Valle center.

Animal assisted therapy is booming because of its effectiveness and the high motivational value it has for people.

Among its many benefits recognized by experts are the regulation of the autonomic nervous system, power self-concept, essential for good emotional intelligence, promote self-esteem and control locus, work self-control and tolerance to frustration and improve empathy.
