Cut off access to the Historic Quarter by the arrival of three cruises (17/04/2017)

The Local Police of Cartagena has launched this morning a device to avoid the pedestrian saturation of the main streets of the Historic Quarter of the City, by the arrival to port of a triple-scale cruise ship with five thousand tourists on board.

Among the measures taken is the cut of the circulation, from 11 o'clock, at the junction of Calle Duque and Calle Serreta, which gives access to vehicles to the main streets of the center through which tourists travel through archaeological sites , Modernist facades, historic buildings and filling shops, bars and restaurants.

In the early hours of the morning the Boudicca arrived, with 850 passengers;

The Balmoral, with 1,000 passengers and Majestic Príncess, with 3,560 passengers.

With 19 stopovers and 21,173 passengers, the month of April marks the beginning of a new season of cruises with double and triple stops.

Shipping companies such as P & O Cruises, Fred Olsen Cruises Lines, Holland America Line and Silverseas Cruises have made Cartagena a regular stopover on the Mediterranean.

Between April and May, 49 ships will arrive to Cartagena with around 70,000 tourists on board.

The month of the year with the largest number of cruises will be October, with 33 ships and almost 40,000 passengers.
