Cs Cartagena proposes a battery of measures to support those affected by inflammatory bowel diseases (12/04/2017)

According to the Citizen spokesman in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, "many of these people end up suffering serious episodes of anxiety and depression, tend in many cases to isolate themselves and even their family and social environment is aware of what happens, they also have many difficulties In their work environment and here there are many fronts on which we can act from public institutions, to improve the quality of life of these patients, to publicize this disease, and promote their recognition and facilitate more research in this field to discover their Causes".

The Municipal Group of Citizens received this week, in the premises of this training in the Palace Hall, several members of the delegation in Cartagena of the Association of Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis (ACCU), Ramón Ballester and José Manuel Martínez, Who is also a member of the Cs Cartagena Economics Working Group.

The members of the ACCU transferred to the spokesperson of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, a series of proposals to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of those who suffer from this disease.

This Association calculates that only in the Region of Cartagena there are about one thousand affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) (although the figure increases every year, and there is an invisible bag of undiagnosed cases);

A chronic, idiopathic, complex pathology that affects the digestive system and which today is still a great unknown by society.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (EC) are the most common conditions in IBD, and associated symptoms are growth retardation, fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, night sweats, primary amenorrhea, severe diarrhea , Rectal pain and bleeding, among others.

This disease affects mainly young adults, increasing their incidence among children, and their diagnosis is often slow and complicated: 17 percent of those affected are usually diagnosed five years after the onset of the first symptoms.

According to Manuel Padín, "many of these people end up suffering from severe episodes of anxiety and depression, tend in many cases to isolate themselves and even their family and social environment is aware of what happens, they also have many difficulties in their work environment."

For the spokesman, "there are many fronts on which we can act from public institutions, to improve the quality of life of these patients, to publicize this disease, promote its recognition and facilitate more research in this field to discover its causes, Which to this day remain unclear. "

ACCU members explained to the spokesperson of the orange formation that the day to day of these patients is very difficult both physically and psychologically, due to severe incontinence some of them require colostomy (outer bag).

They also regretted the few subsidies they receive from public bodies because, according to this Association, the table of disabling diseases is very obsolete and they have many obstacles to getting them to recognize their degree of disability.

Cs will take full measures to improve the quality of life of those affected by IBD

Among the measures to improve the quality of life of patients with IBD, Citizens has collected, with the aim of presenting an initiative in the next Municipal Plenary, the need for the City Council to promote and defend the inclusion of Inflammatory Bowel Disease list Of Disability Diseases, and the solidarity support of the Consistory of Cartagena to people suffering from this disease, as well as their families and the associations that interact with them.

To promote the development of outreach activities and awareness of the disease in Cartagena, especially on the occasion of the World Day of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (May 19).

Citizens will also request that the City Council of Cartagena coordinate a meeting with members of ACCU Murcia, which will be attended by health professionals of the municipality, associations of innkeepers and merchants, responsible for the Local Police and Civil Guard, and representatives of the public transport sector and Sign a collaboration agreement to achieve some objectives.

Among the measures that must be included in this agreement are:

Send a card or identification card of the patient who voluntarily requests it (only those who present an updated medical report) to:

Request emergency stops in public transport, as long as the needs of the service allow.

To be able to use the WCs of the municipal public buildings, of gratuitous way and priority as long as the identification is presented.

Agreement to use the toilets of hoteliers and merchants (free and priority).

Include in the municipal website of the City Council a list with the businesses attached to the agreement.

Promote the use of a spatial badge to easily identify these establishments from the outside.

Study the convenience of authorizing parking in disabled, loading and unloading places, for a limited and minimum time to use the toilet.

On the other hand, to urge the Regional Assembly to carry out information campaigns on the agreement reached, and promote actions to promote research and measures to facilitate early diagnosis of this pathology to improve the quality of life of those affected.
