The 130 Elderly people of Cartagena participating in the pilgrimage of the Jubilee Road of Caravaca de la Cruz, organized by the Department of Social Services, will make tomorrow the last stage of their pilgrimage from Cehegín to the Basilica-Sanctuary of Vera Cruz de Caravaca.

The group began the pilgrimage on the occasion of the Jubilee Year 2017 on Wednesday, March 1, starting from the Dock of the Apostle Santiago in St. Lucia, Cartagena.

The pilgrims departed from the parking of the Mandarache Shopping Center at 7:30 in the morning in 2 buses.

They were accompanied by the mayor, José López, who had promised to march with them the last stage, the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín and the president of the Federation of Clubs of Elderly, Maria Beteta.

During the trip the mayor said that being able to be that morning finishing the way with the group of elders was "a real prize and a privilege", he said he wanted to arrive in Caravaca even if he had not walked the previous five stages, and indicated that he will perform The full path throughout this year.

The vehicles arrived in Cehegín around 9:00 am, where they approached a diocesan shelter, an old railway station of the locality, in which they sealed the beginning of the day.

Along the route, of a little more than 7 kilometers, a team from the RTVE 'Weekly Report' program accompanied the group to include material recorded in a report on pilgrimages in Spain to be broadcast on Saturday, April 15.

The good pace of the pilgrims allowed, as was planned, to reach the city of Caravaca at eleven o'clock.

The Local Police escorted the group to the parish of El Salvador, where they sealed the credentials and received a blessing from the parish priest, who invited them to go up in procession after the cross of Caravaca to the Sanctuary of the Santísima and Vera Cruz.

There they attended the Mass of the pilgrim, in which they were greeted like the rest of groups attending by the priest who presided the celebration, who at the end of the same invited them to approach the altar to sing Salve Cartagenera before giving the blessing.

At the end of the Sanctuary, Caravaca's mayor, José Moreno, came to greet the mayor of Cartagena and exchange gifts, and to congratulate the group of Carthaginian pilgrims, before receiving the Caravaquensis that certify the realization of the road to Vera Cruz.

To celebrate the end of the journey, the 130 pilgrims finished a meal of brotherhood in the restaurant 'Salones del Castillo' in Caravaca and had the opportunity to visit the city of Caravaca before returning to Cartagena.
