The City Council will not allow spaces to drink on the public road in Easter Week (28/03/2017)

The City of Cartagena will not allow spaces to drink in the street.

This has been made known by the Councilor of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, after this morning's meeting of the advisory panel of the Night Pact in which have released the data of a survey conducted by the UPCT among university students On night-time entertainment and the representatives of the political groups have also been informed that next week there will be a program of leisure activities for young people over the weekend.

"The City Council does not allow spaces to drink," said the councilor, who added that "those over 18 know that they can do what they want provided they respect the rest of the neighbors and public order," noting that minors Have completely banned alcohol consumption, and for this reason "since the City Council has launched these months a campaign so that the establishments pay special attention in avoiding the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors", and in addition will be sanctioned by the security forces the Consumption of alcohol on public roads by minors.

That is why, since the Consistory wants Cartagena to live Holy Week, "supporting it as one of the main economic engines of the city" and invite young people to enjoy with respect and responsibility of these days, has encouraged Torralba.

To offer a leisure alternative to young people other than drinking on the street, from the councils of Culture, Celebrations, Youth and Sports has developed a program of activities that will start after Easter and will be presented the first week of April.

The programming will take place during the weekends of April, May and June, Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The program will target both children and adults.

In addition, the data of a survey carried out among university students of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena by the institution itself, an integral part of the Pact for the Night, were presented at today's meeting.

The sample was of 350 people with a confidence level of 95% with respect to the obtained data.

93% of respondents said they would be interested in cultural leisure activities at night, and 81% said they would participate in evening sports if they were offered.

Among these data also shows that 90.5% would like to install a space where they can drink, which 72% would like to be next to Estadio Cartagonova and 28% next to the Mall Mandarache.

"It is the opinion of young people, they decide where they want to be, and the security forces will carry out the control that is required," said the councilman, who has focused on the special attention that will be put in preventing children from consuming alcohol.
