The virgin of Solitude will return to Mount Calvary on Sunday (24/03/2017)

The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Solitude on Mount Calvary has scheduled for this weekend a series of activities that culminate on Sunday with the traditional pilgrimage to Calvary, on the occasion of the feast of the Incarnation.

Among the various celebrations planned, on Saturday, March 25th at 7:30 p.m., a solemn Eucharist will take place in the parish of St. James the Apostle of St. Lucia, in which there will be a kiss to the Virgin of the Solitude of Mount Calvary and Will be attended by the mayor of Cartagena, José López.

In this act will also be made the appointment of brothers and rosaries of honor.

ROMANCE TO CALVARY

On Sunday 26, at 10 o'clock will leave the Romería, which will return Our Lady of Solitude to her hermitage on Mount Calvary.

Previously, at 9 o'clock there will be a farewell Eucharist, in the parish of Santiago, in the neighborhood of Santa Lucía.

The arrival of the image and of the pilgrims to the top of the mount is scheduled for 12:30 hours.

There in the esplanade of the Sanctuary will be officiated a Eucharist of arrival.

For the attention of the pilgrims, the sanctuary environment will remain open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm every day.

On the other hand, the temple will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

AN ANNUAL APPOINTMENT

The pilgrimage takes place every year to celebrate the Feast of the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Two Sundays before 25 March, the image of Soledad is lowered to the shoulders in simple walkways until the neighborhood of Santa Lucia, where the parish priest and faithful pray a septenary during that week in the Parish of Santiago Apóstol.

On Friday, a Via Crucis is carried through the streets of Santa Lucía and after these acts of worship, Sunday rises again in pilgrimage to its headquarters, where it remains the rest of the year.

In the pilgrimage the Virgin is accompanied for four kilometers, first with great hubbub from the parish of St. James the Apostle to the skirt of the mountain, where the drums are dismissed and then the procession continues praying each of the Stations of the Cross and singing the Hail.

From here to the summit, the Passion of Christ is remembered. It is a narrow, rocky and steep road, reminiscent of the true Calvary in Jerusalem (all of these environments also affect the climate and vegetation of the area).
