UPCT researchers offer to Santa Lucía Hospital its technologies of biomedical application (28/02/2017)

Twenty research groups from the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), which develop innovative technologies and innovative application processes in the biomedical field, have met today with the staff of Santa Lucia hospital to know the work they carry out and to evaluate its possible application In health care.

The head of studies at the hospital, Trinitario Sánchez, and the heads of area, have known the lines of work in which they could collaborate with the heads of some twenty research teams of the Polytechnic.

Systems of teleoperation, biosanitary cleaning with microwaves, therapeutic gardens, detection of tumors, food for patients in chemotherapy, cardiac regulation in patients with Parkinson's disease or performance of health management are some of the projects that researchers of the UPCT have proposed to carry out jointly during The meeting, promoted by the Foundation for Health Training and Research of the Region of Murcia and the Vice-rector of Research of the UPCT.

At present, two research groups are collaborating with the hospital.

One of them works in collaboration with the Otorhinolaryngology Service of Santa Lucia hospital, where a fluid mechanics and thermal engineering project has been applied, focused on a study of the nasal cavity and blood flow, and another group with the team Of the anesthesia service of the two hospitals in Cartagena.

Each representative of the groups has made an exposition of the most important research lines of the team with which he collaborates.

These include the study of the absorption of drugs by cancerous tissues, the extraction of information from images for tumor identification, genetic and molecular analysis, therapeutic horticulture and the development of food for patients undergoing chemotherapy or Parkinson's disease .

They have also exhibited projects on health management and home hospitalization, three-dimensional digitization and processing of signs and images, and works applicable in gastrointestinal diseases and related to the colon or in the elimination of toxic compounds or pollutants waste water, among others.
